I need so advice on help to relieve the pain. I got arch support inserts for my shoe at Dick's but it's only helpin a little. The more cardio I do and since im on my feet all day at work, it gets more sore! Any suggestions?
Thanks in Advance!

I have some past experience with arches back in college when I played volleyball and basketball. Back in those days ;) the athletic shoes were definitely not great and our VB shoes had no support inside whatsoever. I did add inserts at that time but it didn't help.

I ended up having mine taped by the trainer to play and then had to back off once season was done to let them heal.

I hate to say this, but letting them heal without doing cardio may be your only bet. When you have an area like the foot where you have no choice but to walk, (and with you being on your feet during the day) you are going to have to try to stay off of them as much as possible. Icing a few times a day may help for a few days and then maybe some heat and massage (tennis ball or your hands).

Have you thought about seeing a physical therapist? Many times the therapy, massages, hot/cold baths, exercises, etc. can help tremendously. I finally broke down when I had carpal and forearm pain and the therapy was wonderful.

Hey Randi

I have been going through this myself. I ended up going to a physiotherapist. The arch supports might not be the right one for your feet. A PT would be able to tell you what would work best for your feet. Having said that mine recommended Superfeet. I was given a list of stretches to do and foot/ calf strengthening exercises. Here is a site with similar exercises and stretches http://www.healthlinkbc.ca/kbase/as/tr5853/how.htm The morning stretch is crucial. I know the site says heal pain but mine was in the arch as well

The other considerations are; do you need new shoes? What are you doing your cardio on (concrete, ceramic tile are both bad news) Did you increase the number of cardio sessions or intensity too quickly?

Good luck!

I suggest freezing some water in a plastic water bottle and rolling over it with your arches (this combines massage and cold)

you can also try strengthening exercises, like sitting with your toes on a towel, and using your toes to curl the towel towards you
