Hi there,

I know this is not the most appealing topic but if anyone has advise as to how to deal with bad callouses on the bottom of feet I would appreciate it. I have a really bad one that just never healed. I also have a corn on my baby toe that never healed as well, it makes it very difficult to wear closed toe shoes.

Thanks in advance,
Sham

Hey Sham,

I have callouses on both feet x(x(x(x(x(, not nice. When it gets too thick, I get one of those scrapers like a manicurist uses and scrap away. As for my bunion, I've had it removed. Man that was giving me PAIN like I never felt before. The surgery was done in the doc's office (2 hrs). It didn't hurt one bit. Only getting a shot to ice the foot. I only felt pressure, like when the dentist is drilling. My bone was not scraped, as I was told it could grow back. Instead, my bone was broken in two places and chiseled. It's been ?7? years since I've had it done and had absolutely no problems. Best thing I've ever done for my left foot.

The only problem was I SHOULD HAVE HAD THE RIGHT ONE DONE at the same time x(.

I get pedicures monthly - that helps with the calluses. If I don't remove them they drive me absolutely bonkers with itching and stuff. I also use a pedistone and have been known to get a little over excited with a scraper once in a while.

My understanding (and I'm no doctor) is that calluses don't actually help us, so there's no reason to keep them.

Sham, I get corns on both baby toes, man they can hurt--I had them removed by the dr. & he said I should have surgery.........both toes curl in & he told me I needed to have a knuckle removed in each toe to prevent corns. Six weeks recovery, ugly shoes & all........I told him he must've lost his mind & never went to a podiatrist again.

Anyway, I changed the type of shoes I wear & that helped. No more pointy toes or really high heels (excpet on special occasions of course), and for narrower shoes I go a half size up. Also there is padding you can get at your drugstore, stuff by Dr. Scholl & such.

Other than that, I don't think you can prevent them, & the only way to treat them is the actual removal.
