I went to Peru last year for vacation. Loved it. Visited Lima, toured Cuzco, did the Inca trail and went to the Amazon jungle.

The Inca Trail is amazing...4 day hike ending at Machu Picchu. Views are stunning. First two days hiking up hill to elevation 14000+ then on day 3 all down hill...they call it the gringo killer. They are really limiting the number of people that can travel the trail, so make sure to sign up before you get there if you're thinking about it. We hired a porter to carry our larger backpacks so only needed to carry our daypacks, making it a lot easier. The altitude got to us.

Trip to the Amazon, through Puerto Maldonado, was fun. Jungle was very dense making it hard to see animals. But vegetation was interesting. Saw lots of caiman and small monkeys, can't remember which kind. Came home with a couple of bot flies that my doctor could not diagnose. Not dangerous, but scary for a couple of days when we didn't know what kind of parasites I had. Also need to be concerned about yellow fever in the jungle. But if you're not interested in the jungle, you don't need to worry about it.

There are a number of World Heritage sites in Peru, including the Nazca lines, MP, Cuzco, Arequipa and the Manu reserve.

I recommend visiting the the CIA (http://www.cia.gov/cia/publications/factbook/geos/pe.html) and Wikipedia (http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Peru) websites for info on Peru.

If you're interested in other things nearby (relatively speaking) Bolivia has Lake Titicaca and Ecuador has the Galapagos Islands. But remember that the government had some problems in Ecuador recently, so be a little more cautious than normal.

You look awesome Norma. I had never seen your Picturetrail before. It's an amazing accomplishment.

Marla:) :) :)

Norma,
You look beautiful. What an incredible accomplishment!

Jes, have fun in Peru if you go. My friend Steve went a couple years ago, and loved it.
