Any Teens that do Cathe

I was just wondering if you know of any teen's that do Cathe amd which workout they do? Ages 13 and up?

My one neice (16) has started to do her "own" workouts (which my DH does and it is quite scary frankly)and she plays tennis and does copetetive cheer. My other neice (13) is a basketball player and is quite weak in the upper body. She is almost 5'8" in the seventh grade! Thin too. She needs some muscle for playing center.

Thanks,
Dawn

Hi Dawn,

My sister is now 18 & has been doing Cathe of and on for a year. She has been in dance since she was about 5, so she is quite flexible as well. Now that she is in college, her eating habits are not so great. She has put on a few of those "college" pounds & has been a little more serious with exercising. She alternates between the treadmill and aerobics. She prefers doing Cathe's kickboxing workouts & Christi T. hi/lo.

Aila:)

I wouldn't worry about the 13 year old. She is still growing in the up direction. My nephew's pediatrician nixed the idea of him doing weight training while he was still growing as his energy expenditure was going towards his growth spurt and that physiologically it's very difficult to build out while you are still growing up. She backed her opinion up with alot of data for us to read. She said that he would start to bulk up and build muscle much more easily when his growing started to slow down. Be proud that your neice is active and don't worry about bulking her up or put any pressure on her to do that since it may be practically impossible while she is still growing and she seems to be in the upper percentile for height and is still in her growing years.

Hi, Dawn

The thirteen year old should do some lat pull-downs, shoulder, and arm work for muscling around under the hoop. Plus, she should probably work on plyometrics for jumping. A lot of times the bean pole builds don't have much fast-twitch capacity and are out-jumped by the short wiry ones at this age. She also needs to EAT, EAT, EAT! a good diet with no junk if she is a serious athlete who is growing. I train high school girls a lot, and I constantly have to remind them to EAT!

Hello!!!
Ok, I have been reading your forums for a while but never decided to join myself until now! I'm 18 and LOVE all of cathe's videos!! I keep trying to find other instructors who I like as much but none can compare!!! Right now I am a student at UC Davis in California, and last year for my senior project in high school, I obtained the primary group exercise certification through the AFAA. I am yet to teach any classes though...too nervous and way to busy!!! (but I always find time to sneak in a little cathe though :) ) I own practically every cathe video except the pure strength and slow and heavy series, and of course, I immediately preordered all her new DVDs!!! Well, have a great day!!!
Leslie:)

I have been doing Cathe since I was 17. Now I am 19. I started with BootCamp. I do the Intensity Series, Body Blast, HSTA, and several others.
Ann is right. We do have to eat more. I use to eat maybe 2x a day. Now I have to eat 6 small meals a day.

I think teens do benefit from Cathe workouts. It hasn't harmed me in any way. I've only seen improvements.

Hello All!

I am now 23 but have been doing workout videos and playing sports ever since i was 15. I used video's during sports off seasons, my mom introduced them to me :) (thanks mom!). I started with the Firm, but then moved on to Cathe when i was probobly 17 or 18.

IMHO, I wouldn't recommend giving weights to a child before they are through puberty. There is just too much stuff going on in their body, no need to add something else!

:)

My daughter has been doing Cathe for about 2 years. She is 19, but since she'll be 20 tomorrow, I have to hurry up and post!!

She does all the weight tapes, plus Boot Camp, KPC and CardioKicks. She refuses to do the step. She tried IMax once, and got mad at it.

For other cardio she runs, and uses machines at the gym (elliptical, treadmill, stairclimber). She is taking swimming at college so she can add that in too.

She was here yesterday doing Boot Camp. Yay!!

My 15 year old son is my workout buddy! He loves/hates Cathe and his comments are a riot while we are working out. I wonder how I get any working out done with all the laughter, but we are both sweatin' and shakin' when we're finished. He will only do the weight workouts with me because he is too macho for any sort of dancy stuff, but he really thinks lifting a barbell is cool.
