Any suggestions for 14yo DD?

My daughter wants to start working out with me! She's 14, but not in the best shape. I'm running 3x/week, so I'm doing my Cathes M/W/F first thing in the morning. I'm thinking I should start her with a mix of cardio and strength, focusing on shorter (30-45 min) workouts at first. She's not a big fan of pop music. To be honest, I barely notice the music, but if she really dislikes the music it could be a deal-breaker for her. I own pretty much everything Cathe ever made, but just one full-size step and one high step.

Thanks in advance for any and all suggestions!

Kick boxing? Give her a bit of 'attitude'! Quite a few of the girls I know around that age do taekwondo, and love it. Their parents says it gives them a lot of confidence.
Hardstrikes and rockout knockout are fun - but you'd have to check out the music first, I seem to think it's quite 'poppy' on both of them.

I agree with Justine with the Kickboxing, but what about getting her into running? I was that age when I started doing track. I use to swim a lot but was looking for something different and my uncle was a runner so he helped me out slowly and ended up loving it. I was on my track team during high school. Since you are already a runner, you could give her great tips.

I started running at 14 (1984) and it was the best thing to get through all the crap of high school kwim. I have a life time love for it but thanks to crappy joints and years of running with crappy shoes I had to give it up at 40. I didn't discover kickboxing until 40 when I had to give up running its very embowering. I think and type of martial arts traditional trained or cardio like Turbo FIre would be great at 14

My DD's two favorite are Slide and Glide and KPC. DS likes the upper and lower premix of the original Boot Camp, just 30 min. if you add in the warm up and cool down.

I think kickboxing is a good idea! Of course I'm biased as kickboxing is a favorite of mine. However....it might be a good place to start because you can put a little or a lot into the work. As your daughter gets stronger she can punch harder, kick stronger and so on. Cross train express might be good too, a bunch of workouts that have variety and are less than 1 hour.

What about the workouts that have the options to use vocals or instrumental? I think rock out knock out was one of them. Since you said she doesn't like pop music if it has no vocals then I think she wouldn't mind. Maybe one of those. And there is a premix on afterburn that is only 30 minutes it is doing all drills once through so it is hard but doable. Or maybe one that's easier then that is cardio supersets I think there is an express premix on there as well that is a lot easier to.
I think she would love kick punch and crunch

My 16 yr old started working out again. She is really into Cathe's Xtrain, RWH + Dasha Libin KB workouts. She loves Dasha. She tends to like workouts around the 30 minute mark. Last year I started my DD with Supercuts and Flextrain. She would stop at 30 minutes. Now, she likes to workout about 5 days/wk. Good luck!
