Ab Area Question

I have been working out sort of regularly. I have noticed that my lower abdomen is getting smaller (slowly), but the area above is large and hard. It is so noticeable in my clothes. My 13 year old daughter even made a comment about it. Why isn't that area getting smaller. Any suggestions on which workout will help in that area. Plus has anyone else had or have this problem.

Take note of your form. My understanding is that if you don't fully contract your ab muscles during the exertion, your abs will pooch out. Also, check your diet. Are you doing enough cardio?

How hard is the area?? It may be excess skin from your pregancy/pregnancies. If it's skin...NOTHING will rid of it but surgery. If it is abdominal fat then you need to clean up the diet and get enough (not too much) cardio. Make sure you include strength training as well.

Don't hope for spot reduction...no such thing!! You never see a woman with a six pack and flabby everything else.

I have been alternating cardio, circuit, strength training and cycling for the past 7 - 8 weeks. I work out 5 -6 times a week.

I do not think it is from pregnancy. My daughter is 13 and this enlarged area has appeared in the last 6 months - a year. I am wondering if menopause have anything to do with it.

Yes, most definitely--menopause can account for a lower metabolism and weight gain. This happened to me and I have to be really careful. I gain weight very easily and have to work twice as hard to get it off. ;( x(

Thanks for everybody's input. I was thinking that menopause had something to do with it. I had been using Cathe's dvds a lot and was seeing great results. I got sick during the summer, did not work out for a month and it seemed I gained so much weight. I thought the weight would have come off quicker, but old menopause is holding on to it. But thank goodness for everyone on this forum and Cathe; I do not plan to let menopause stop me.
