6 times a day is TOO many for me

Just curious--are any of you also cooking for a husband or family? Do any of you like to cook and feel frustrated by such a plain diet? I love to cook--epicurious.com is one of my favorite websites. I like to have a really nice dinner for my husband and myself (and my sons when they are home), so I usually spend quite a bit of time thinking about menus, ingredients, cooking time, etc. This is probably why I have difficulty losing weight, but I just wouldn't be able to do six of these Spartan meals per day--they look a bit boring to me, and wouldn't leave enough calories for dinner with some wine.

>I eat several meals a day. Breakfast is usually kashi go
>lean. Snack is a banana. Lunch is low fat wheta bread with
>chicken lettuce and onions. 10 fat free chips. Snack is
>yogurt fat free with blue berries. Dinner is usually baked
>chicken and veggies. Yogurt again for a snack. Now that is
>on a good day. If I am being bad I have fat free pudding and
>a few bites of chocolate. I feel so deprived sometimes I do
>cheat and have a huge muffin! Baked goods are my downfall:(

I second that.........baked goods and sweets are my downfall.

I don't cook for family, but I love to cook and can't stand bland food. I'd rather not eat than sit down to a piece of baked chicken and some steamed broccoli. Unless I'm *really* hungry!

This mentality does make it extra challenging to come up with creative food that works for your calorie/macronutrient balance. But to me, it's fun to be creative this way!

My answer has been to combine my lean proteins with different veggie combinations. For example, this week I've been eating salads with a mixture of corn and black beans for protein with tossed salad greens + tomato, mushrooms, fresh jalapeno, cilantro, radish, cucumber, yellow squash, and toasted crumbled corn tortillas with homemade chipotle ranch dressing.

I do this with soups and stir fry too - tofu + veggies, chicken + veggies etc.

It can be a bit time consuming, but if you keep it relatively simple - it makes meals a lot more enjoyable. And if I don't enjoy my meals - I start having pizza and snickers dreams

Hi, Kathy. My granddaughter calls me NiNi :7

I saw your posts in the Ms Fit's forum under new members section today :7

Thanks for letting me know which Catheite you are.

garance,

I cook for DH. He is very easy so typically it's some sort of meat for him and a veggie. That's it. Sometimes it's stir fry which is also quick and easy. DH runs for exercise and stays lean.

I prepare my meals in advance and refrigerate except for potato that I just microwave before I leave for work. I microwave the portions as I need them. So on Sunday, I baked chicken breasts and a turkey breast and made a big batch of brown rice. For the fish, I just stick it on the George Foreman grill for a few minutes and it's done. For DH last night was turkey thighs I popped into the crock pot before I left for work and a can of green beans. Tonight I'll throw together spaghetti him but I use bottled sauce (my Italian grandmother is rolling in her grave!)

Cooking is not "fun" for me and I don't bake because I'd be the only one eating whatever I made. I was raised in an environment where food was all important. My Italian grandmother thought I was too thin at 20 lbs overweight. It was always "Manga, manga". I'm trying to adopt the mentality of food as fuel. But, truthfully, I like plain foods. I always have. I like my veggies fresh. Do not really like red meat. Love fish and fruit also.

But, show me an exotic dessert and I've got to try at least one bite

IMHO diets set people up for failure so I make it a rule not to ever follow one. I try to choose healthy foods, but if something from the others food group catches my eye (ie: Milky Way bars) I don't deny myself either. For me, it's just emotionally healthier to have a bite. Sometimes I eat six times a day sometimes I eat four. There are no hard and fast rules...I follow what my body says on that day....

Jes - sounds good to me! But is your fat free dressing high in sugar? Or your protein shake? The less sugar the better, IMO.

I can easily have six meals a day! But that usually includes 3 regular meals plus 2-3 slightly smalller meals. Especially since I'm so on the run lately! I've lost 3 pounds in the past 2 weeks because I'm not laying around at home eating as much.

Guess my mind is pretty clean - I knew what you meant in the subject but I will admit I chuckled at the "Does anyone else do Mindy Mylrea" thread? Like, yeah, her dh probably.}(

Naughty, naughty. These double entendres never even crossed my mind. How did I ever hook up with you guys?

Agree. My daughter is on WW Core plan and I've been eating so much cleaner it's great. I've never been able to do the 5 veggies/fruit and for the first time am. I guess at this point in my life I'm more concerned with health. I have some VERY bad habits I'm trying to break - such as no lunch. Old habits die hard.

I'm with you Lorajc. Haven't used an oven for 15 or so years. I was a good cook when I was young and had the time, but when life got busy, and I moved to the city, I actually threw out my pots and pans to make more room for clothes! LOL. Now, if it can't be made in the microwave, fagedaboutit. :+
