50 and over week of Jan 11 check-in

Good afternoon!

Today is a rest day. I was going to do an ab workout, or recharge, but I really feel like I need a rest day (good feeling).

Magnolia, balance is an issue for me too. I think it has something to do with age.

Tina, I hope you are back to feeling good!

Joan, I can't beleive anyone can have Cathe unopened DVD's!!!! I've actually brought new DVD's and my portable DVD player to work so I can preview them on my breaks!!!

Jann, I really like how I feel after week 1 of CLX. I wish we had time to do another week, but I am excited about Push Circuits too! What do you think? I guess we can always go back and repeat the weeks again. Now I'm wondering if it won't be March before everyone has their DVD's and Cathe is ready to start.

I only lost .2lbs this week (ate too much over the weekend), for a total of 2.2 lbs this year. I still have about 5.5 lbs to lose to get to my pre-holiday weight. It sure does come off so much slower than it goes on! Darn!

Have a great day everyone!

Bev

Bev I am going to do the first phase over again this week. I don't think I am ready for phase two. I viewed the first push circuit and it is pretty much the same as burn phase 1 circuit 1 only with heavier weights. I am not ready for heavier weights yet. Since all the weeks are the same we will still be on the same schedule. So we can still cheer each other on. I don't want to push to much right now, I am just getting back into weights and I feel I am not ready -- sorry -- I do feel good after the first week!!

Hi, Everyone.

Tina, I'm so sorry you were sick! I was also very sick with a nasty headache on Saturday. I know mine was allergy-related. Glad you are feeling better now. I think good sleep is one of the most important health-related issues, so it's great that you don't have any problems there.

Thanks, Joan, for the balance exercise. I'll try it. I hadn't gotten the shakes like that in a very long time.

Jann, congrats for losing a pound. That's great. I'm hooked on Kashi cereal too. It's too good.

Bev, hang in there. I am too chicken to weigh--I just know my jeans are tight and that's about all the clue I need right now. Maybe I'll get brave enough to actually weigh tomorrow.

Did Basic Step again today, but I did the stability ball abs segment also from that. Legs are a little sore from yesterday.

Stay well, everyone.

Magnolia

Good evening everyone,

I did GS Ch & Tri today. I am really sore. Why is pain delayed for everyone else?

Jann I really try to vary my diet so I don't get bored. I think Dr Oz says to keep meals the same because he thinks most people will not count calories. If they get a reasonable breakfast and lunch, they probably can't do too bad at dinner. Of course after saying that I have been eating total cereal most days. It's low in calories and helps with vitamins. Actual lunch and dinners are different. I have been having 1/5 c almonds and 1c low sodium tomato juice most days as snacks. Almonds seem to help grades and tomato juice has 810 potassium. I also throw in 10 baby carrots (323 potassium) and 3 stalks celery(146 p) occasionally. I always have 1c skim milk with breakfast and usually a banana.
I bought wheat germ but don't really care for it. Sometimes when I have a banana I dip in 1T wheat germ.

I went to www.usgov.gov and looked up food pyramid. It was interesting to read about the process of making the pyramid. They admitted that the average person is not going to get all potassium from this. In the past people ate more white potatoes and you get 1000 p. in each one. A cup of most beans will get you 800 or so.

Magnolia- I need to do more ab wo. For some reason I just don't like to do them.

Hi Bev and Tina,

Better stop dh just got home from three day business trip and I should welcome him home.

Joan

Morning.
Burn circuit 1 done. I added some step on to burn over 300 calories! I lifted 10,12,15 today it felt VERY good.

Magnolia I just love Basic step!! I like the fact that I could raise the step to 8 inches and give it my all. Nothing complicated. I mix cereals. Kashi crunch and blueberry. YUM.

Joan Wow you really have found a solution to the potassium! I bought wheat germ too and I don’t care for it. I read after I bought the regular that toasted taste better. I tried putting it into my oatmeal, it was not good. That’s a good point about Oz. I might switch up my snack to carrots and hummus.

Bev I guess you saw I am doing the burn phase one week over again.

Tina I hope you are feeling better.

Good afternoon, everyone.

Joan, ab work used to be my least favorite, but I have learned to like it. I really find that of all the ab workouts I have, Cathe's give better results than any of the others. That being said, I kept seeing these ads for "Crunchless Abs" over the holidays. Since it looked intriguing to me (and was cheap!), I ordered one of the DVDs. (BTW, I tried that Bender Ball thing last year and I didn't think it was bad, I just like Cathe's stability ball ab routines much better.)

Jann, Basic Step is one of my favorites. I have only been using my step on the six inch level, though, because I had lost a set of risers. So I just ordered a replacement set, and hope to be doing the workout at the highest level soon. I am still learning Cathe's routines, so I am loosely following her start-up rotation for beginners. I just substitute some of my personal favorites to mix things up. I used to love to mix Kashi crunch with South Beach Strawberry Harvest cereal, but can't find the South Beach cereal anymore. It was good, though.

Today I did Upper Body Burn, and it felt really good. I was using 12 lbs. on the bent rows, but I think I could probably use 15. Might try that next time. After Lower Body Burn the other day, my legs were pretty sore, but they're lots better today. I'll probably be feeling today's workout tomorrow.

Have a pleasant evening, all!

Good evening everyone,

I got 3 miles on treadmill.

Jann - I can only get c's for potassium. That's a passing grade isn't it?

It's been so cold here but dh decided to have a fire in fireplace. It was so windy out that all the smoke was blown back into the room instead of going up chimney. At least I know the smoke detector works. It took hours to get the smoke out.

Joan

Good Morning!

No, I'm not up for the day--I just couldn't sleep. Thursday was a rest day by accident, I couldn't get up. I just can't win!

Joan, did you have any smoke damage? I bet it took a long time to get the smoke smell out! It's been really cold here in MN, too. Wish I could go south for the winter.

Jann, it's okay that you're doing Burn Circuit again, but I think I'll start Push Circuit today. Now I'm a day behind anyway! Maybe I can skip a rest day.

Hi Magnolia and Tina, hope you are doing great!

Bev

Good afternoon!

Joan and Bev, it's a winter wonderland here in NY, too. I think the high today is a balmy 12 degrees!

Joan, so sorry to hear about the problem with the smoke from your fire. I hope everything is alright.

I did Basic Step again today using a six-inch step. Next time, I think I'll try to start pushing it up to eight inches. "Crunchless Abs" came today. The booklet that came with it includes a kind of a generic good-sense diet, the crux of which is to have a cup of soup (different varieties of vegetable) before every meal except breakfast so that you don't eat quite as much. They included soup recipes which contain a lot of fresh veggies and look healthy and not too difficult to make. I think I might try the soup strategy (especially in this lovely weather) with my current eating plan. Since my DH loves soup, this should be good for both of us.

Please stay well, everyone!

Gosh I can not believe how fast today is going. I jumped on the treadmill this morning for 45 minutes. I wore 2 - one pound walking weights. I was trying to burn more calories.

Joan YES "C" is passing!! It's way closer than I can get. :) So, I guess you ended up opening windows to get the smoke out - :( I hope you got it all back to normal.

Bev Good. I am only lifting intermediate weights now so I think I'll have to build a bit to move on. I do want to be ready for STS!! I think I am going to order the 7th DVD from a gal who got 2 copies. If the price is right. ;)

Magnolia I have never tried South Beach, or even seen SB cereal. Maybe it was short lived? Good for you!! I like following a rotation. I've seen that crunchless abs infomercial too. I hate ab work and it shows - :p Crunchless abs looks like it might be something different to try. Let me know how you like it.

Hey - Tina!

Good afternoon Jann, Bev, Magnolia and Tina

We left windows open for a couple of hours. Boy was it cold. I had to wash all bedding and a lot of our clothes from the closet. He felt so bad I couldn't even yell at him. I always tell him that more heat goes out chimney than fireplace provides but it is nice to look at a fire.

I did parts of several premixes from different dvd's for legs. Cathe did lots of lunges and squats and high step. My knees didn't bother me too bad but I'm back to advil every day. I think previous leg wo this week with more floor exercises was more effective. Or at least I felt it more. I am trying to do the 3 day split like GS with a 2nd day of lower body.

Let me know about crunchless abs also. I doubt there is any miracle out there but crunches do bother my neck.

Joan

Pauline where are you?

Good Afternoon Jann, Bev, Magnolia, Tina and Pauline,

Yea sts:D Are you planning to wait for Cathe? I can't believe she could start Feb 2. Won't she wait until everyone gets dvds? If she waits until March I might start sts for couple of weeks and then start over with her.

Tina I hope doctor's appointment went well Friday.

I did 5 miles on treadmill. Either Sunday or Monday will be rest day.

Have a good weekend everyone.

Joan

I will have to see when Cathe starts also. I ordered early and usually get her shipments quickly...:D

I did CLX BC2 today. Went heavier than last week and my shoulders are sore! :) I like to burn at least 300 calories so I did the first 15 minutes of Basic step -- loved that!

Have good weekend ladies!

Good afternoon, Joan, Jann, Bev & Tina,

Today I did Firm Basics Sculpt with Weights and went a little heavier on the weights. I used 15 lbs. for the bent rows and 5 & 10 lbs for everything else. I decided to try the first workout on Crunchless Abs as well. I would say that most of the exercises on CA don't seem as if they would affect the neck, but there are a few that could be uncomfortable. I did feel the work in my abs. Most of the moves were very familiar. Actually, I was nearly finished when an elderly friend of mine who lives alone called, and I did not get to finish. I am taking a rest day tomorrow, but I'll try it again next week and let you know if I think any differently about it.

Have a great weekend, everyone!
