40 & over checkin - week of 10/05

Hi All!

The KettlebellWay was my chosen w/o for today and I am done!

I am finding that for the 'windmill into overhead squats' I need to use my 10 pound dumbbell but it feels a bit awkward holding it.

Here's hoping I can get that move and build up to using my kbell for it.

My lats are still feeling Doms from Lauren's kbell dvd from Monday afternoon and my Lower body too - wow. I'm really liking kettlebell work. :D

Meanwhile I'm still waiting on my 8 & 12 KG bells and Newport to get here ( apparently the bells are on backorder till next week from performbetter) so looking forward to using them once they get here.

Kathryn prayers going out for your dad, so truly sorry about your dad's health.

Mary you are too sweet! I live in NC its sunny now lol

Lisa Still thinking about you guys. Wow Dubai? Well I've heard its a growing very Euro like country.

I guess having Doms in my lats is good then? I was a bit worried that I was doing something wrong as I'm feeling DOMs in places I haven't felt DOMs at before. lol

Have a great day and big Hellos to any and all who follow!

I love NC!

Vilma, I love NC (live in GA, though)! Are you west or east? I have relatives in the Asheville area (my father was born there), and my best friend lives in Raleigh! I especially love the mountains.

You're probably enjoying the same drought that we are here in Georgia ... will it ever rain again? More than twice a year, I mean.

Thank you all for your prayers and good wishes about my father's health. He's very strong and I hope that the tests give us good news about the prognosis! :)

Kathryn DH works in the capital city and we live roughly 1 1/2 hours southeast of there.

Thats where we plan on buying our next home once ds is done with HS (he's a junior now) and yes we have that same drought here.

Continued positive vibes for your dad.

Well I'm off to tackle my ever growing laundry

HI everyone,

Sorry about the rush yesterday. I just never had the 5 minutes to do anything. Anyway, today is the the weights portion of LIS and HIS. I just cannot get the footwork of those two so I just do the weights. I love BC and kB but a lot of the step moves just confuse me. Anyway, not much going on here, just trying to get my workouts in and trying to watch my eating.

Kathryn - sorry to hear about your dad, hugs and prayers out to everyone in your family.

Hi everyone.

I had a day off yesturday which was really nice and peaceful. What I have omitted from my posts about these stupid men, is the agression with which they say these things and thats what I find hard to deal with. The total agro and nastiness towards other colleagues of ours (who I happen to like and get along with) AND these moaners are in positions of seniority and shouldn't behave in this manner.

Now, I'm over it, until work this afternoon!:p

I had a great workout yesturday too, my plan this morning is to do the school run, ride my horse and then workout in between tidy up the house then go to work.

Lisa I hope you are giving yourself some smile time! Its improtant so you don't let yourself get too down. Still thinking of you!:)

Vilma - How goes all the health issues in the family and yours? Sounds like that airborne drink is pretty good stuff.

Kathryn- I'm sorry to hear about your dad. Non hodgkins disease is different to Hodgkins disease? I've heard a fair bit about hodgkins disease and know of a number of people who have had it (all survied ) My mother had breast cancer and the treatment was most definalty worse than the cure. However, its whats got to be done. Try to give your dad good vibes (hard I know) but he's probably s***** himself. Stay strong and keep us posted.

Rhonda - I've got Amys SloMo and All Pump Extreme DVDs and in the beginning I got lost in the warm ups too.

I'm thinking of buying Tracey Effing (or similar) Squeeze. Any one have this one? Any opinions? I hope you all have a peaceful night.

Hi all

Skipped the workout yesterday as still recovering. I did an Eoin Finn yoga podcast this morning when I got back from the hairdresser's which was lovely. Am thinking I'll get back into cardio/weights etc. next week now.

Lisa - still keeping everything crossed for you and DH. It sounds like you're staying really positive about it all - that's half the battle.

Kathryn - sorry to hear about your dad. Hope all news is good news.

Murphy - I love the 4DS weights. Have you tried any of the premixes?

Hi to Mary, Rhondalyn, Vilma, Andrea and anyone else I missed.

It sounds like there are some serious kettlebell fans on here! By the way, is anyone else getting their KBs mixed up? I keep reading kickboxing for KB - it's really confusing!

I'm also a big Amy Bento fan - love her Knockout Cardio. It's so tough I never do the whole thing.

It's DH's birthday today. We 're not doing much for it today but we're going to a local Italian place on Saturday for dinner.

Bye for now!

Hi all! I am all alone in the house, It has been heaven, I just don't know what I want to do first! I do have housework, but I am delaying, enjoying the pure silence! I did 4DS BC, love that one! Goes so fast and is so much fun! Ronne, have fun at dinner this weekend, Andrea, how great to have a horse, do you have a lot of land? Murphy, I totally agree about HIS and LIS, I keep trying, tho I look pretty foolish, thank goodness I am alone when I do them! Vilma, I'll come to NC! Are you near the beach or a lake! Kathryn , hope all is going well with your dad. Lisa, Dubai? That would be a culture change! It is supposed to be beautiful, tho! Hi Rhondalyn! Andrea, I tried Squeeze once, from the library, it is totally different from Cathe, light wts, (I used 2 lbs) I'm just not that keen on it, I think I like to move a little faster and more used to the heavier wts. Have a good dayall, Mary

Good Morning,

I had a great w/o this morning. I did AoS Firepower-Alarm 1 and then practiced on ASC3. I think I have combo 1 and 2 down now but I'm going to play with it again tomorrow to nail it. Lots of fun this morning!!!:D

Enjoy your quiet time Mary!

I agree that KB can be confusing. Maybe we should start Kbelling it? ;) I am so glad Amy has premixes.
Enjoy your celebration dinner Ronne. :D

Lisa I hope you are giving yourself some smile time! Its improtant so you don't let yourself get too down. Still thinking of you!

I agree with Andrea here.

Andrea, I've heard good things about SloMo. Do you like it? I have never tried Squeeze but I've heard a lot of people rave about it.

Vilma, I don't know if I'll ever be able to do the OH squats with my Kbells.

I have to use a DB too. I'm glad that you're liking them. :D

Murph, it is frustrating not being able to get the moves. That's why I'm using Amy's as an add on until I learn enough of it to get an entire w/o from it. :p

Kathryn, be sure to keep us updated on your dad.

Glad I didn't....not that I (we) can't get it, it's just the time needed to get it. Make sense?
Perfect! ;) Dubai? I would probably panic at that point. You've got a great attitude!

I say we all meet in NC!

Hi all,

Today is a rest day and it is welcomed. Okay, it is an unplanned rest day, but still welcomed. I have DOMS from the 4DS. I have been increasing the weights and feeling it. I hope everyone is doing alright.

Ronne - no, I have not tried the premixes. You recommend them?

Murph

Hi girls.

I ate well yesturday!! YEAH!! Thats ONE day, how cleaver am I? I am totally taking the pi%% outta myself

Murph - Enjoy your unplanned rest day! I love it when you up your weights and you have DOMS Well done!

Rhonda - nearly every day you are introducing me to new workouts. Firepower? SLoMo is great. She doesn't stick to the "usual" exercises. It was the very first weight workout that I EVER perspired when doing and got totally burned.

Mary - Lucky you! Enjoy your peace and quiet.

Ronne- Glad to hear you may finally be on the mend. I don't have any of Amy's cardio workouts, her form annoys me. But I like her weight workouts. (I am probably being really unfair to Amy, as the only cardio bits I've ever done are her warmouts)

Hi Vilma and Lisa.

Kathyrn - Hows your Dad doing? When were the tests being done?

I going to the hairdressers today! I enjoy going to the hairdressers to catch up on all the gossip.

See ya.

Hi everyone....better late than never but I'm here to checkin. Did I hear there was a party in NC? ;)

I did CCv7 today....I just needed a CC workout! I think I'm going to wear out my treadmill and CC by using them so much because the stress is overwhelming at times. I need CC9!

I decided that I'm staying quiet about DH's job possibilities. Reason is that it worked for me when I was interviewing for the nutrition assistant job, remember? So, that's my plan and I'm going to stick to it! This is a wild roller coaster and then I hear today that DH company has record profits and projects more profits.....wow....so, er, why the layoff? Oops, I better be quiet, if I say anymore I'll have to do another CC!

Katherine,
Hope all is well in your neck of the woods. I did find a chemo nutrition recommendations from going thru my bosses files. If you want it let me know (I hope you don't need it!)

Murphy,
I did the UB premix from 4DS...I had DOMS too....it felt good. We are sick people liking the soreness!:D

Rhondalyn and Vilma,
I have problems with TGUs and Windmills...I skipped that section in Newport when I did it this past weekend, I didn't have it in me. I try to refer to kettlebells as Kbells because I get the KB mixed up with kick boxing too.

A quick shout out to everyone else....Andrea, Mary, Ronne, and anyone I forgot. Until tomorrow....

Good Morning All,

I did something a little different this time. I decided to start incorporating my WiiFit. I used the boxing segment and my arms and shoulders are sore. My legs are a little tight but I also did some balance stuff, maybe that is why. I am thinking of trying the running/jogging segment of the WiiFit.

Happy exercising to all, see you Monday.

Murph

Hi all! I did the lower body weights from 4DS and then I did both core sections.

Murphy, how do you like the Wii Fit? My sis who is easily 100lbs overweight talks about getting it (whether she uses it would be another matter), but my DS said good luck in finding one....are they that hard to find?

Not much more to add. Have a great weekend everyone!

Sorry so long - Wii

Lisa - I do like it. I am not sure if I would recommend it as a weight loss tool other than the idea that you are moving and therefore burning calories. It is good if you like yoga and balance games. They have an aerobics section but you have to get past the boring step on, step off, step on, step off stuff to things that are more fun. They also have a resistance training (I think that is what it is called) with things like planks, push-ups and the like. It also has a running program where you put the controls in your pockets and it registers your leg movements. I would recommend for a nice change of pace. The skiing, hula hoopping (starts with one and increases as you get better) and boxing with tricky footwork aer a nice break.

It does track your progress and has a few sarcastic comments but just ignore it. Plus, your little Wii figure (Mii) is based on your size so if you are thin/regular, so is your person and if you are overweight, so is your obese looking person.

You don't just have to get the fit, you can get a sports game where you golf, play tennis and baseball, and bowl. It is a lot of fun, especially when you challenge other family members.

They are hard to find but they are out there. We bought ours on-line through Target. If you see it and want one, grab it. There are often "specials" where you can get the Fit, the Wii itself (you need the Wii to use the WiiFit) or the Wii and the Wii sports with various controls (raquet, club, sterring wheel, etc.).

Good luck.
