WM Beta 2.6--Q's/bugs/suggestion...

llp

Cathlete
Thanks for adding the "notes" feature to add to each exercise. I'm finally getting a chance to use it and have some questions/ideas...

1) Can't re-edit notes: I notice I can only enter a note ONE time per exercise. If I enter a note, then save it, then realize I need to add additional info to the note, I cannot access it when I try to re-edit it. Is this the intention to never change the note again, or is it a bug? I know I would like to have the ability to add-on to existing notes.

2) Make the "notes" feature date specific: In your blog note you wrote : "You cannot make a note for an exercise for just a specific date at this time. We’re curious to see if this is really problem, so please let us know. " I would really like to be able to make a note for a specific date. The reason for this is, between rotations(say I do the 3.5 month rotation, then in 4 months, I may do Meso 1), I will be doing the same excercises, but, want to write different notes, applying to that day. I may have increased weight by 2 pounds on one exercise, so, I write notes to myself -- I have a shorthand version of how I load the BB. If the weight differs, so will how I load my BB. I use these notes to make my workout transitions to the next exercise move quickly. So, yes, it is a problem to have the same notes there for different workouts. I believe it's neccessary to have notes for specific dates.

3) Keep the "Edit Workout" view intact after clicking "save": When I enter info in the WM in the "Edit Workout" view, such as weights or target weights, then I hit "Save", I would like to not have the WM go to the calendar view. More often than not, I am just editing, and saving and want to stay in the "edit workout" view of the WM. It wastes a lot of time to have to click on the calendar date, then click on edit workout, and then figure out where I was, then scroll to it, just to get back to where I had left off with my editing. Why don't you just leave it in "edit" view after a "save"? If I want to get out of "edit" I should be able to hit an "exit" button to take me back to the calendar view. Would that work?

4) Add number of minutes in Disk Title in WM, printout version: I think it would be good to include the number of minutes the workout runs, in the title of the disk, in the printed version of the Workout Card.
I realize this information is on the back of the box of disks, on the "show details view of the calendar, on the "edit workout" view, but it is not on the Workout Card View--which is the printable workout card. So, on the Workout Card for Disk 3, instead of saying Disc 3 -Legs, it should say Disk 3 - Legs - 53 Minutes. Just having this minor amount of information on the Workout Card helps me plan my time better at a glance, rather than have to get my box and look at it, or go to the computer and look for it. The workout time seems to run from ~50 to ~70 minutes, and every minute counts for me(especially 4:30 in the morning!).;)

5) How are bugs/suggestions tracked? I'd like to find out how these bugs, questions, and suggestions are tracked. Sometimes I see questions, or suggestions(I've had some of my own), on these forums, but, there's not an acknowledgement that the question has been read, or that something will be done about it, or that nothing will be done about it. I think it would be good to have a ticket number assigned to the question/bug/suggestion just so the customer (OP) knows the status of the item. Inadvertantly I'd discover a feature was implemented, or a friend would write to tell me, but the OP's original post was never addressed on the forum. It's a good thing a feature would be implemented, but, I think it would be good if the status was noted on the forum, so the OP would know where the it stood (will it be implemented or not). I hope that made sense!

Well, that is all I have right now.

I really appreciate the upgrades at each release! Thanks again!

You can currently edit a note for any date. After you have saved a note for an exercise a small "+" will show to the left of the exercise number. Just click on the "+" and you the note will appear so you can edit it.

2) Make the "notes" feature date specific: In your blog note you wrote : "You cannot make a note for an exercise for just a specific date at this time. We’re curious to see if this is really problem, so please let us know. " I would really like to be able to make a note for a specific date. This is something we're considering, but it is major project. To make this happen we need to change our database structure from "exercise specific" to "date specific". This is something we do need to eventually do anyway, but I want to get some other things done first.

3) Keep the "Edit Workout" view intact after clicking "save": When I enter info in the WM in the "Edit Workout" view, such as weights or target weights, then I hit "Save", I would like to not have the WM go to the calendar view. This one of those things that it just depends on how you use the application on what makes the most sense. There really isn't a need to click save until you're ready to exit though. We like to keep clicks to a minimum when possible and having just a save button that doubles as an exit button and returns you to the calendar seems to us to be what most people want to do.

4) Add number of minutes in Disk Title in WM, printout version: I think it would be good to include the number of minutes the workout runs, in the title of the disk, in the printed version of the Workout Card.

Sure, we could do this

We do read everything that is posted in our support forums, but usually don't respond until we have fixed or investigated the issue. The problem is there can be multiple posts about the same bug, but we usually only respond to one. The way you can find out about updates is to refer to our Blog. The most recent blog updates also show on cathe.com, Thecathenation.com and our Facebook fan page. We have a category in our blog called "Workout Manager" and all updates are listed in order and are easy to find. We could install bug tracking software like we use internally, but this is a fitness forum and bug tracking software may seem out of place or to technical for our site.

I have answered your questions and concerns above with a red font.

Hi SNM:
thanks for answering, plz read my comments

this doesn't seem to work for me. I can click on the "+" and the note appears, but, it is not editable. Is this only my problem?

I guess I tend to save often no matter what application(Word, excel, ppt, or applications where I work), so that I don't lose data. I've lost plenty my edits in the past, so I am cautious and overdo my "saves"! Maybe I am the only one like this, but, I don't lose work anymore! :) If people speak up maybe you can change it, though, I think most people don't have an opinion, since they're not saying...

4) Add number of minutes in Disk Title in WM, printout version:

thank you!!!

Sure, I understand not wanting to have bug tracking software on a fitnness forum. I guess I like having something like this, though, to find out if the bug is being worked on or not. It is useful info to know, rather than just wonder. In the case of multiple posts of the same bug the tracking software could cross reference it. This is just my opinion, so no need to change everything just for me!

thanks again...

I'm in the same boat. Been trying every workout for 3 weeks. No luck - it wont let me change the note

Edit is now working again. Please try again and lets us know if you see any problems.

Hi SNM-
It still does not work. My computer was off for about 24 hours and I just started it up about an hour ago...

Thanks for trying to fix it. I'll check back later.

I just tested in IE 7.0 and chrome and it worked just fine. Did you refresh your browser?

Hi:
Well, yes, I refreshed my browser; I powered down once, then again and both times the re-editting of the note did not work. I have IE 6.0. I have been always initially able to create a note, but, I have never been able to change/re-edit it. I can click on the +, and the note shows, but cannot be edited.

Maybe another user can give feedback?
Traci: have you got it to work yet?

Do you think having IE 6.0 instead of 7.0 would cause this problem?

Thanks for continuing to address this!

IE 6.0

yes, that would explain your problems. IE 6.o is a very old browser and I'm sure a lot of features in the Workout Manager will not work in IE 6.0. Even this forum will look different and not very nice in IE 6.0 as it does not support many CSS styles and features. You might want to upgrade as many companies are starting to end all support for IE 6.0.

hello..
I finallllllllllllly got IE 7.0 installed, and have restarted my laptop.
The notes re-editing still does not work. Can someone else in your support group try, please?

Maybe someone else on this forum could try, too?

Also, comparing 6.0 & 7.0, I see no visual differences -- the site & forum look exactly the same. I did re-check under the Help in my browser to confirm this is the 7.0 version. What other differences should I have seen?

ie6.jpg

There are differences. In IE 6.0 you can not see the picture of Cathe and Lorraine or our Logo (see picture above)that you can see in the header with IE 7.0. This is because IE 6.0 doesn't support png files with transparent backgrounds. There are many other differences too, but in many cases we have written hacks to make IE 6.0 work as it should. We're looking forward to the day when we don't have to do this anymore.

We have tested the "edit notes" on numerous developers computers and haven't had or seen any problems. I would suggest now updating java which really runs this part of the Workout Manager. If that doesn't work I would then try cleaning out your browsers cache. Let us know if this helps?

Thank you for the suggestions. I got it to work as follows:
1) I cleaned out my browser cache--in Internet Explorer 7

  1. From the Tools menu, select Internet Options... .
  2. Choose the General tab.
  3. Under Browsing history, click Delete... .
  4. Next to "Temporary Internet Files", click Delete files... .
  5. Click Close, and then click OK to exit.
Then, I clicked the "+" to open the note, but found it necessary to click on an actual character in the note. I found by clicking on the note on a blank space on the end of the note, it won't open it for edit. I can tell it opened the note for edit because the full line(even the blank end of the note), turned white, which was previously yellow.

On a side note, I wanted to mention that I went to my son's laptop(and he has never ever been to cathe.com in his life!). He uses Firefox. The re-editing of the note did NOT work.

Thanks for the suggestions, but, that was a lot of work to get it working!!
Also, thanks for pointing out the differences between 6.0 and 7.0 (the picture of Cathe and Lorraine-- that did seem new today!).

thx again:)

Firefox

Glad you got it to work and upgraded to IE 7.0. As for Firefox, we actually do our design work in Firefox as it is a much more up to date browser than IE. The Workout Manager will work just fine in Firefox and has been throughly tested using Firefox.

When it comes to an advanced application like the Workout Manager it takes two to tango. A browser like IE 6.0 is several years out of date and can not handle or take advantage of modern CSS 3 or 4 code. This means if we were to limit our code to people using IE 6.0 browsers we would really be restricted in some of the things we want to do. Many major web sites have recently announced they're ending support for IE 6.0 in a few more months. We only have about 13% of our customers that use IE 6.0 and it is very time consuming and costly to write hacks to make IE 6.0 work. So, we strongly suggest that everyone update to either IE 7.0 or 8.0 or to an up to date Firefox or Safari. We too will stop supporting IE 6.0 in the near future.

As for Firefox you need to check which version of Firefox is being used. An up to date Firefox will not have any problems with the Workout Manager as the WM was designed using Firefox. You also have to make sure java is updated too.
