I need advice on Clean Eating Options

Amy Steppe

I do not have a lot of money for clean eating.

Can anybody suggest some inexpensive options for clean eating?

I love blueberries and oranges but they are so expensive.

My entire family of 5 has a limited food budget, so I can't hog up the food bill too much.

Is low fat cottage cheese clean eating?

I have to take a ton of prescription medicines and even with private insurance it runs into a lot of money, especially when I factor in my medical visits.

Thanks to everybody!

Amy

I glad that you would like to keep eating clean. It's hard when groceries keep going up. Do you like beans? Beans are clean and high in protein and fiber. There is a ton of different things that you can do with beans. I tend to like Goya brand.

What does everyone else think? I would like to get more ideas also.

Clean eating can include frozen fruit and veggies, as long as they don't have any additives or preservatives. Stock up when frozen items are on sale, and use when you need them. Also, get Green Bags - they really do work and extend the life of your fruits and veggies substantially, so you can buy more at a time and get fresh produce that's on sale, and they won't go bad.

Yes, we eat a lot of beans. My husband makes a great vegetarian chili.

I eat vegetarian 90% of the time out of choice. I am just not big on meat and never have been.

I prefer vegan, but feel it is too restrictive and a very difficult way to get needed protein.

I LOVE egg whites. I have never liked yolks, even as kid.

Gosh, I have a egg separator and just now remembered.

What are green bags and where would I get them?

I have never heard of them.

Hi,

I have seen these sold at CVS and Rite Aid drugstores also. I use them all the time and they do extend the life of produce as long as there isn't to much moisture in it. I often put a paper towel in the green bag to keep the moisture down.

Another inexpensive food for me it oatmeal, the old fashioned type, not the packaged flavored ones. I buy the plain quick oats and add some cinnamon and ground flaxseed. People at work have commented on how good it looks and smells. Sometimes I add a tsp of honey or maple syrup to it. All natural peanut butter is another good one.
