Exercise Vibrator-Really?

I saw an ad for a new piece of exercise equipment -Proform Activator- and I was wondering if anyone has heard anything about this. Apparently its weight training with vibration for "better" results. You step on a vibrating platform while weight training.

I read through the description of supposed benefits but I'm skeptical. http://www.proformactivator.com/index.html oh and the vibrations aren't cheap at $999 for this technological breakthrough.:p

What do you all think of this?

Here's a nice quote from website: "In Fact, we recommend that you only use the Activator 10 minutes a day, 3 times a week to avoid muscle fatigue which can lead to injury"

Should Cathe tapes come with the same disclaimer?

These kinds of things have been around for a while. Gaiam used to sell one (maybe still does). There is controversy as to whether they are beneficial or perhaps harmful. Standing or sitting on them while performing exercises supposedly increases the effectiveness of the exercise, but certain vibration rates are supposed to be better than others (IIRC), and using them too long can be harmful.

It seems to me like a piece of equipment that, if it works, might be best for rehab or for athletic training.

Only for the men.

Actually I can see it now. Some woman stating, "I never seem to have any time for anything else, but exercise".
