Movies to Rent

Yes, I think the DVD was released about 3 weeks ago. It was a best selling book, & the book scared the crap outta me too! :p

If you can handle subtitles, The Orphanage is one of my new favorites. I honestly forget I'm reading subtitles like 2 minutes into the movie.

These are all foreign films (but very scary/creepy, in my opinion):

Odishon (some DVD covers read "Audition")
El Orfanato (oops, I see it was already mentioned by Amber Liann - but I'll keep it on the list; it's really good)
Funny Games (German version)
Spoorloos (or "The Vanishing" Dutch version)
Haute Tension (some DVD covers read "High Tension")
Jungfrukallan (also known as "The Virgin Spring")

Please let me know what you think if you rent any of these!!!

Wasn't that movie just awesome? Even my DH liked it and he HATES subtitles. The first time I watched it though, I came upstairs with puffy eyes and a tissue in my hand and DH was like "Whoa, what's wrong with you???" I wasn't as big of a fan of Pan's Labyrinth (the director's earlier movie). That one just left me disturbed...

I liked "Pan's Labyrinth," but I liked "The Orphanage" a lot more (actually, the director of "Pan's Labyrinth" produced "The Orphanage," but it had a different director). Funny, the same thing happend with me - even though my husband typically dislikes horror movies, we rented it a few months ago and he really liked it!

I cried so very hard after the movie (but I won't say anymore as I don't want to give anything away).

That's probably why it had a slightly different feel to it. You could tell it was the same "style", but more subtle than PL. I kept having to close my eyes in PL. I gotta say the whole finger nail scene in The Orphanage still has me cringing to this day though!
