Would you disable the star-rating feature?

a different viewpoint

Not trying to be difficult but there are thousands of Cathe members who didnt post on the thread you reference...Whats so wrong about the rating that it needs to be disabled? Its a software feature- use it if you want/ or dont... ignore it when you read threads or not.

I understand that potentially some "troll" will give 1 star ratings to the entire forum but who cares...its a troll....

I guess I just dont like the idea of banning things that are harmless because of potential misuse.

REALLY not trying to be difficult - just giving my opinion! Its all good- whatever gets decided

I agree with the OP. After seeing someone put a "one star" rating on a birthday thread to a longtime and very well liked forum member--a REALLY crappy thing to do--I'd be happy to see the star ratings go away.

Hi Jonahnah and thank you
I'm the OP and have only 1 star on this thread, and am feeling pretty bad & embarrassed about it(that's why why I edited out the contents of my previous 2 posts). I think the person who rated it with 1 star was mean-spirited as was the person(s) who rated the well liked forum member.

I don't see the purpose in promoting this sort of thing on this website.
I would hate to see this negative spirit detract from the positive & supportive spirit displayed in Cathe's forums.

I really appreciate that you agree with me Jonahah :)

Hi Linda

:) Glad we agree too! I thought your reply post was very well thought out and hope SNM reconsiders this feature given its ready potential for abuse, as already demonstrated. Take care!

Hi Linda,

I wouldn't take it personally. I just rated you 5 stars. I know Traci didn't rate this thread at all. She's not like that. It takes too much energy to be mean spirited. LOL She was only wanting to keep the feature active.

Personally, I couldn't care either way about rated threads. It's such a subjective matter. Maybe over time, people will only rate on topic, informative threads to help new forum members find information.

Hope you are feeling better.

Wendy

Hi Jonahnah and Wendy-

Thanks for your nice words :D. I do feel better -- it was just the initial amazement that someone put 1 star there that made me feel bad. So, I guess initially I did take it personally, so if they person wanted me to feel bad it worked! Just a few days have passed, and so I don't feel too bad now ;), and the issue is not as personal anymore.

Oh, yes, I knew Traci wasn't the one to rate with 1 star -- she was just telling her point of view, which is totally okay in my book!

Yes, hopefully if the rating feature is kept enabled people can use it to rate it for informative purposes in a positive way.

Thanks again!
linda ;)

Linda, I'm glad to hear you're not letting the rating thing bother you anymore. Whoever gave you the one star, was just being mean spirited. Btw, I gave you 5 stars. :)

I once gave my own thread 1 star, but I was being funny.

I agree, Linda ~ I don't see the point of rating threads. I'm willing to live with it, of course. If the rest of the forum wants it, fine. But if it were up to me, I'd get rid of it.
