What software program would I need to write a book?

We had people over last night to share our dinner. They were amazed at my soap making. I gave them some samples of course. During the years, I would get a lot of these kinds of comments, and also people telling me to write a book on the subject with my recipes. My soaps are very unique.

It made me think about writing a book on the many recipes I've created during the years.

Can anyone suggest a program that would benefit this project? I've typed a lot in Microsoft word, but something is not right there. It's not free flowing as it should be.

This would be a book perhaps for publishing, (if I pursue it). There are probably rules you have to abide by if I were to publish it. Formats, style....

Any suggestions would be very much appreciated.

Janie - I don't think you need special software. If you have a book that's publishable, it's my understanding that the publisher will work on setting it up in a format that works. You just need to provide the meat

I think Microsoft Word would be sufficient for the writing part. I'm not sure what you mean about free-flowing though.

I really think that is too easy. Could it be?

Then I need a publishing co. who wants my ideas. I can go for that. (that might not be easy) I do have a list of publishing companies.

Just throwing this out in cyberspace to see what people know about it. Something I've been wanting to do now for a very long time. I have a collection of soap recipes that I would love to share for a healthier way of life, not to mention for a better environment.

I keep reading that people who write books, can't write in Microsoft Word, because it doesn't work well for them. I'm thinking perhaps because they need special formats or style...I really don't know the reason why. Maybe it's for those who send their drafts and such electronically.
