What happens to your body at 30?

Okay, ladies... I need some input here. My 30th birthday is coming up in a few months, and I was just wondering what body changes you all noticed around that age. My curiosity is piqued mostly by several comments from people lately about their metabolism taking a nosedive at 30 and warning me about putting on weight much more easily. Did any of you experience this? I can't imagine it would happen suddenly if your diet and exercise are consistent, but who knows... the body is a unique machine.

One thing I have noticed in the past couple of years is that my body seems to only accumulate fat in the form of stomach flab now... What is up with that??? It's very annoying b/c my weight hasn't changed much, and overall I am more fit than I was before. Is that age-related? Stress? One added bonus, though, (at least in my hub's eyes }( ) is that my boobs have also grown some. He he... And I would say that I am more curvy now, too. But that makes sense from a biological standpoint, I guess.

What do you guys think?

My body did great during my 30's. My metabolism started slowing down at age 42. Because of Cathe and learning ways to deal with body changes due to aging, my body is doing even better at 50.

The metabolism does start to slow down after 30. That is not so much something I have observed but something I have read countles times.

Turning 30 doesn't mean you are on your way to a sloppy self. Look at Cathe! Look at WD(Diana Sue), Toasythemosty(Charlotte), Run4fun(Beverly), Spinin28(Denise)! I am sure there are others here but I don't know for sure their ages!

All you have to do is stay active and keep the diet clean. That is definately WAY more than what the average post 30 year old does!!!

For the record, I wouldn't go back to my 20's for ANYTHING!!! Post 30 is SO MUCH BETTER!!!!

My body has gotten better in my 30's, mostly due to changes in my workouts and attitude towards food. I started doing heavier and more focused weight training, more intense cardio, and STOPPED dieting. I've also added yoga to my workouts, which I think has been beneficial overall.

I generally do try to eat to a wide variety of good, unprocessed/minimally processed foods, but no foods are forbidden.

It's not turning 30 that changed my body. It was pregnancy and childbirth. My metabolism is still running pretty well. I think exercise helps that a lot.

This is a great post. Keep them coming, please!! I'm 28 and I swear my metabolism changed the week of my 28th birthday! Thinking back, though, I started taking the pill again that month so I guess that doesn't count. I was amazed to think, though, that it would happen that fast- and before I even turned 30!

Love hearing that there is still hope. :) (just kidding)

The day I turned 30 my hair turned grey and I gained 20 pounds of fat. Just kidding!! I believe that at 32(almost)I look better now than I did in my 20's. I haven't noticed a change in my metabolism but that may be because I work out much smarter now. Although I must admit when I see people my age, some of them look really old to me and it reminds me of where I could be had I not taken care of myself. I think it's all about how you treat your body and what you put into it.

I don't know about all of you, but I'm not turning 30. I'm turning 20-10. I just like the idea of still being in my 20's. I'm sure I'll get over it, but right now I'm in denial. My birthday is still 7 months away, but I have been thinking about the fact that this is my last year in my 20's every now and then since I turned 29, and that is when I decided that I am not turning 30, just 20-10. I just need one more year to get used to the idea! LOL!

At 30 I found that the habits I had of a big fat peanut butter sandwich at lunch, the eating out almost every night at dinner, and the nightly big bowls of ice cream started to show on my body, whereas they had not before. It was on my waist, too. Once I cleaned up my eating, I had no problem dropping the extra weight. I was already working out...I just didn't know the right way to eat back then.

This may be a little of subject but have any of you taken the "real age" test? Of course it's not 100% accurate but I does give you an idea of what your body age is verses your number age. It takes into account a million different factors including how you drive, what you eat, how you exercise, whether or not you have friends, whether you take vitamins, how much you sleep, etc. It takes a while to get through it but I found it interesting. As I mentioned before, my number age is 32 but my "real age" (according to them)is 23 or 24. Kind of made me feel better about my number age. I think it's at www.realage.com

Actually, in the thirties, the biggest change a lot of women notice has more to do with their menstrual cycle, particluarly with the onset of worsening, maybe aggressive PMS. This haappened to me and women I know.

I've been the same weight and same size (6) for over a decade and am now 40.

Ageing of the body will happen, but you lessen the effects of it through sleep, diet, exercise, stimulating the mind and spirit wwith interests about which you feel passionate.

Yep, it happened to me. The year I turned 30 I gained about 20 lbs. No change in the exercise routine, no change in diet (which was low fat at the time), no change in lifestyle at all. Just a change in the scale. x(

I remember hearing in high school health class your metabolism changes every 7 years. I don't know how true that is (HS was a long time ago LOL) and, for that matter, I'm sure it's just an estimate--it might change every 6 years or 8 years or whatever. As we're always saying here, and as shown in this thread, everyone is different.

But, 30 definitely changed things for me. I've worked hard to get & keep the weight off, but now it's real work, whereas 10 years ago it was a piece of cake. Pun intended. :p

I am 37. What I found happened after age 30 is that the way I treated msyelf started to manifest physically. Prior to that I could eat whatever I wanted and not really exercise, party all the time, etc., and still look pretty good. But as I got a little older, I found that...

fat and sugar and alcohol and uncontrolled starchy carbs = pounds
lack of exercise = sagging skin and no muscle tone
lack of sleep = bags, bleary eyes, no energy, general irritability

...etc. ad nauseam.

Basically what happens is what you do becomes who you are. Sort of a Zen thing, if you think of it that way.

I now watch what I eat, work out consistently, make sure I get enough sleep, and try to strike a physical/spiritual/emotional balance.

I will tell you that I feel fantastic and look great and most people think I am in my 20s. I am also far more confident and comfortable with myself than I was when I was younger, and that to me is worth every line or wrinkle I might get along the way. (I will just botox them when the time comes, lol.)

Cheers,
Marie

I am 32, I love my body more than when I was in my twenties. I think the older I get the more I love my body. It's changed, but I have more acceptance.

I had my second child at 31 and noticed the energy level for taking care of a baby was lower than the first who was born at 26. However, I did not really notice a big difference in how hard the weight is to keep off until this year. I will be 44 this month, and I think keeping active is the key for getting through the 30's without too many changes. The reason why this year is different for me is I went back to work full time and am less active. I am in the process of ramping up the activity and have faith that will help.....and no grey hair yet....probably will wake up on my birthday with a whole head full!

And let's not forget Den Momma Debbie H. She also looks amazing. They're all my inspiration. I used to dread getting older, but ever since I know what all these ladies have done I can't wait to add more years to my life. After all, now it means that I'll have a better body because I've been working out longer.:7

I took that test and according to them I was still a teenager :), then I started getting all the spam in my email account. x(

I don't think that anything happens to your body at 30 that you cannot reverse with true effort and determination.

I believe that's why a lot of overweight women over 30 stay that way because they don't believe there is hope....

There is definitely hope and it's NEVER too late to get started!!

I am 38 and and I am stronger more fit and more confident than ever. I take care of my body more and I eat better and feel better than I ever did in my 20's. I think in my 20's I beat myself too much about weight and appearance and now I am much more balanced and ironically look a lot better. I think I definitely over exercised in my 20's and did not look any better. I would never go back to being in my 20's again. I am looking forward to my 40's.:)
