weights vs cardio as we get older?

Does anyone know if it is better to increase the weights with age to help loose and keep off weight or is increasing cardio better? I think I saw on an old thread that Cathy said for herself that she has increased the weights, has anyone done this and found it to work. I have noticed that my motab has decreased some in the last year, I will be 39 this May. I know I am on the early side of getting older but I can see the changes coming. Any advice would be greatly appreciated!!

Generally, you need to increase your weights as you age. We lose muscle rapidly as we age, so to counter that effect you need to do muscle-building activities. And, of course, muscle burns more calories. Additionally, muscle building activities also strengthen the skeletal system and help stave off signs of osteoporosis.

Yeah, everything I've read has suggested some form of weight training.

I'm 39, and my metabolism started shifting around age 34. 10 pounds popped up out of nowhere, even though I've been exercising faithfully since the age of 15.

In all those years though, I never bothered with serious weight training. It wasn't until I started with Cathe last year that I saw changes in my body composition. I'm still experimenting, but there's no question weight training has helped me lose extra fat.

Thank you for the information. This is what I thought. I have been working out for the last 10 years and the last 5 with Cathe. I got the STS dvd's but have not started yet but I think this will be my next rotation.
Thanks again,
Julie
