Weight Lifting with a hiatal hernia

mamads

I am fairly strong for a woman and have a hiatal hernia that I never pay attention to until I lift something the wrong way above my waist or something too heavy . I can do all the weights in all your dvds that I have. Some days they don't bother me and other days they do . Can you suggest exercises that I can do and also what I should not do. :(

No cathe , but i have one also. Most women do from childbirth.
I have an ocassional balling out of the hernia that takes my breath away. Hasn't happened for over 2 years. I really think the weight training has helped strengthen the muscles around it.
I wouldn't worry about it.
If it happens. Take deep breathe, push her back in ,walk around and stretch for a few, It will pass...
It is something they don't like to fix. Dangerous surgery and reocurring.
Don't know if this helped, but good luck.

Thanks, Anne, mine is where the stomach pushes up into the chest area and the pain does go away eventually so I always try to live a normal life and lift whatever I need to but I was hoping there might be some exercises to make that area stronger so I wouldn't hurt it so often. Is this where your hernia is located?

I just had surgery for an abdominal wall hernis ( not hiatal) however my husband had a hiatal hernia repaired and it was a pretty simple surgery, out-patient etc. I would see a surgeon if you are experiencing pain. These things don't go away and can cause serious problems.
