we spoke with a director today she took our name, number and called the branch director(he was out for lunch) within a half an hour of us being at the pool the aquatics director came down and showed us the swim test exemption form and stated that SHE knew viola could swim and that she did tell ppl at their monthly in service and staff meetings but this way if the issue arises again i just point them to the swim text folder.
the head lifeguard was a doll, of course when his boss left his statement went "it should take an incident to sign a damn piece of paper that should have been taken care of 4 weeks ago!" what a doll but of course if he says that to her he could lose his job. but he is right it should have been taken care of when it first came up AND the lifeguard that said viola couldn't swim was in the wrong b/c i was in the pool with her and she is over 9 years of age. if she was younger then yes they have to do that but she is 10 and i was with her so she is allowed too as long as she stays with me. if i wasn't in the pool then yes she would have to take a test. i told them i am not upset about the test i was just upset that i tried to explain and ask if there was a modified test and was basically told "my way or no way" .
if i happen to see the branch director i would love to keep bringing this to his attention for the next family though. we were able to work it out b/c i have the best back up, the majority of the lifeguards!, the next family might not have that and have a harder time.
for the record the other families were never asked b/c basically everybody assumed they could swim b/c they were older otherwise the parents themselves do not let their kids in the deep end without flotation devices so this is why its never been an issue. its either they can or can't and nobody said anything. geesh so hard to sign the paper 4 weeks ago LOL.
thanks for the support gals it really helps to let out the anger before handling these things.then i act like a human instead of an emotional mom out for blood LOL!
