TREADMILL Rec's

My husband and I want to purchase a treadmill. I'll be using it mostly for walking/Cardio Coach, he'll be using it for distance running. We've never owned one...what things should we be looking for? Any good/bad recommendations?? Price/space arent really a big factor, we're splurging with our income tax return.

Thanks!

I have one made by Vision Fitness.. I got it at G&G Fitness ( not sure if this is in other cities or not).. It was around $2000. I really had to have one that folds up when you are not using it due to space consideration in my workout area.. I love it.. it has all kinds of programs, a heart rate monitor that you use a chest strap with, incline etc. I think the important things other than the features I mentioned are the width of the belt and the horsepower of the motor..

I recently went shopping with my mom as she was in the market for a treadmill to walk (only) on. When you go shopping, make sure you shop for the TM that is built for what your DH intends to use it for since you said he will be distance running on it. The faster and longer you want to go, the higher quality piece of equipment you will need. When my mom first mentioned buying a TM I got excited because I figured I could run on it when I was there. No go. This TM is not meant for that so I would burn it out/break it at some point if I try to use it in that manner.

HTH some.:)

Last year DH and I bought an EVO treadmill. While it's a nice treadmill, I do have issues with it. The incline is not steep enough and it isn't compatible with Polar heart rate monitors. You also can't manually switch from time and/or distance so if you're timing yourself, it's QUITE annoying. I guess what I'm saying is I wish we would have gone with the Precor. IMO, they are the best for the money!

We've got a Precor treadmill for 8 years & have been very pleased. We use it for running and uphill walking. We wanted one that adjusted speed and incline easily and was compatible with a Polar heart rate monitor and that stored mileage numbers etc. . We needed one service call so it's good to investigate how service is done depending store you buy from, brand & where you live. Service is expensive & you don't want to need to haul it back to the shop yourself. Treadmills are heavy!. We have ours on a mat rather than carpet to keep down the accumulation of fuzz in the motor & vacuum it out once a year.

We watch TV or DVD's while on it, so make sure the front of the treadmill is not too high to see over. (Can you guess I'm short??) Consumer Reports did a treadmill eval within the last few months so you could check it out at the library. You need to be a subscriber to view online. IMHO you want to spend upwards of $1500 to get a machine that will hold up. Ours was about $2500.
