The toned Cathe

tytbody

Cathlete
I am just asking to see if it's me or what/how.

I just received Pure Strength DVD. This is my 3rd to my program. I noticed that Cathe appears *larger* for lack of a better word, then she is in the *newer* Basic Step.

What made this change if this woman works out all her life? Do you see what I mean in the body change? Did she loose weight or work with heavier weights or what?

I don't know the whole Cathe history but I'm thinking the PS videos were made soon after her first child was born.

When I compare how she looked during PS and now, it seems her abs and lower body have changed the most, not so much her upper body. Also, you'll notice her face looks much thinner now. At least I think it does. So...maybe the changes are in her food choices and caloric intake more than her method of training. Just a thought.

:)

Thanks, I know I'm new to her also but I can sure see the difference in body. Yes, her face as slimmed also.

Eating eh... hummmmm one of my week areas.

Can you obtain tone without having your ribs show? I've never seen my ribs unless I pull my stomach in like in a deep breath. lol.

Do you mean being able to count your ribs? That's too skiny but you should basically see the outline of your rib cage as it sticks out the furthest and then drops to your stomach. IE the breasts should stick out the furthest, and then your rib cage and then your hips. And your tummy should be nice and flat.

A lot of women develop pretty strong abs and they are pretty toned but then there is a layer or two of fat on top of them. Which makes them look fat, and not well toned. If that's what's happening make sure you put in enough cardio to burn the fat, and you'll find nice toned abs under there.

It's odd but if you've been working out and reslly strength training, your muscles will tone but then the fat gets more of a giggle to it. One of the best ways to see which part of the body jiggles the most is to squat then jump as high as you can then land with the knees slightly bent to take some of the pressure off the jump. Do that a few times and you'll find where you jiggle, and it might be fat on top of nice looking muscle.

But yeah watch the eatting and everyone has there bad days and good ones so don't sweat it too much. Just do the best you can today.

Oh there is a definite difference. Pick up one of her older videos......say, Power Max.......& compare it to today's. IMO her body has gone through a complete transformation.

Her face is gaunt looking these days. She could do with a little more body fat actually. It's a pity we can't place body fat where we want it: just take a little off here and stick it there.

I notice a difference in her body and muscularization between Powermax and today, but she looks pretty fit and muscly in the PS series. The major difference is the shorter hair which made her look older. Longer hair suits her better really.

She has definitely added some muscle size, but mainly reduced her body fat, IMO. She is definitely more cut (less "soft," though I wouldn't really call her "soft" in PS, but I can't think of a better word for now).

Also, though I haven't done PS recently, I recall that the camera was a bit closer to Cathe than in the more recent workouts. Could that add to the perception?

Speaking from experience here...the older we get the more our body's change. I no longer have a 'fuller' face either. I wish I could put a layer of fat in the hollows of my cheeks but I fear it is just the natural aging process...or more that those of us who are fighting the natural aging process by staying fit and not gaining weight...are paying the price by losing what fat we do have in places we don't want to lose it, our faces. I have had more small lines, i.e. wrinkles, appear in the last year then I ever have had and I'm having to push harder to keep from gaining weight. After 40 it seems your muscle wants to turn to fat whether you like it or not. I've had cellulose for the first time in my life and I had to change some of my exercises to work muscles differently.

It's an uphill battle from here on I fear! But I imagine that the changes you have noticed in Cathe are due strictly to aging. I imagine her workouts cover her 20's, 30's and now her in her 40's. Everyone's body changes, even those who have spent their entire adult lives staying fit.

I posted a question to Cathe similar to the one you ask here. My question was that she looks very different just from the last Body Blast series to the Hardcore series. I wanted to know if she had just lost a little more bodyfat or if she had put on more muscle? It seems as though it was just more of a bodyfat reduction but I'm not sure, she certainly looks more cut. I was curious.

HiClare, I think that's what I was trying to say but I am not critiquing her, I'm just wanting to know what is this difference. your words are what I was thinking. She was more *muscle bound* as I call it then now but she can do the same work out.

So I guess you can still have some meat on you and still have some muscle also. It's just how'd she trim it up... I was also under the impression when people cut their hair they were trying to look younger. But in her case, the length is definatley a cool good thing. Those 60's we all looked like old hags no mater what our age was.

Wonder if she kept logs to see how she made this change, then we'd know what it took.

Please forgive me for disagreeing on the *muscle wants to turn to fat whether you like it or not* Muscle will never turn to fat. Fat cells are fat cells and muscle is muscle. The two will never be the same.

Do you mean Cellulite vs cellulose. Aren't those two different components also? I looked it up and cellulose is an amorphouse carbohydrate polymer. So what is that???

Ya Kit, that's not the look I want, the anorexic one. I just want tone. So I need to work on these layers but not too far. I hope I can get what I want, smoothness with tone and no bones. And pants that zip up easy:) lol

There is a huge difference in the Hardcore series. I had noticed it via the pics but you don't get the full picture without the DVD's and especially when she is standing talking to the camera. Her appearance is now I think in full flegde body building mode, which I'm sure is what she was going for :) . Now I'll put my 2-cents in and this is not a jab at Cathe or anyone, bless ya all.......I don't like that look on women or men. I love toned sculpted muscles, I don't like being able to see every vein in the upper body, skin that looks like it's pulled tight and that's what I saw.

Like I said this isn't a jab, body building competitors are going for this and I know the hard work it takes, I just don't necessarily like the look of it :)

I understand what you mean. Point well taken. That's also why I was being careful in asking what the change was. She did appear to have the *competition* physique

I think that's a pretty good description of one of the "ideal" body types there. But, most of us don't have that. :( Your ribs showing largely depends on your natural fat distribution. At my leanest, my ribs would show only when bending over or stretching ......and very, very slightly. I'm almost there now. Yet, I have little cuts on my hip flexors, some defintion on my obliques/upper abs and some cuts on my right (but not left, gleeckk!) shoulder. We all know some women who have very slight upper bodies, ribs may show and all, and quite the cushiony rump/hips area. So, some women whose ribs show may be too skinny and others who ribs show may not be. I do wish my showed a bit more. Actually, I would love the intercostals and serratus to show. Maybe one day!!!

So, tytbody, your question really depends on what your body wants to do when you lose fat. But yes, having overall muscle with a slight layer of subcutaneous fat is both achievable and nice-looking. Cathe herself posted that she doesn't always stay as lean as she gets while filming; a "girl has to live". Both looks have their aesthitcal pros and cons and mental ones, too. I think the really cut (and veiny) look would be cool to achieve just for the sake of working hard for a goal! My 2 spining instructors have that look and I find it very attractive and very healthful looking.

Face...as I get older, I'm facing the same drawn face thing. I think it's more pronounced in pictures though! As if the face is one place the camera takes away weight instead of adding weight!

Cathe hadn't had her first baby yet for the Pure Strength series. CTX, Cardio Kicks and Circuit Max came after baby number one. Intensity Series came after baby number 2. Just wanted to clear that up. I like the older Cathe look personally. Her face is a little gaunt for my taste. Heather

Diana Sue goes by WD. She is by far, one of the most beautiful woman I have seen. Yeah, you can say this model is pretty and that actress is gorgeous but they have all ben "retouched" to perfection. Diana Sue (WD) is the real deal...perfection with retouching! My idol!

I think Cathe was more buff and muscular in PS than in BS. Cathe has said her pre-filming diet is more strict than her regular diet and she tends to be five pound lighter when filming for a series. Basic Step was not produced in quite the way she would have produced workouts for The Step Company. I thought she looked softer and less muscled in The Step workouts. Cathe's muscularity floors me as does Diane Sue's! Fantastic!
