Tennis, anyone?

For those of you who play, I'd love some advice on raquets/equipment/shoes for the novice. I'm going to start taking lessons soon and have the desire to become a really good player. I'm looking at this as an investment so I'd like a good raquet that would help me be a better player (they've apparently come a long way from my mother's wooden raquet I used to use years ago- not a really big sweet spot on those!)

I trust the opinions from this site so I wanted to check it out here before I go to an official tennis site. Can anyone help?

Thanks in advance-
Brenda

Go to a tennis pro shop and get advice from a pro you trust in your area. Ask tennis players you know, who they trust. It is important to try out a racquet before you buy one. Many tennis shops with pros will allow you to try before you buy. Try several to see what feels right. Also make sure you get the right grip size. You may get a cheaper price at a sporting good store, but you might end up with a racquet that doesn't help your game or fit your hand.

For shoes, be sure you choose a pair that has good lateral suppoert for those quick moves. I actually wear my Rykas that I use for Cathe workouts. Not everyone agrees with that choice, but it works for me.

BTW playing tennis is a blast!!!!!

Judy-
thank you! We actually have a pro shop and that's who I'll be taking lessons from, so I guess I should wait and have that be part of my first lesson? I'm a little worried about the shoes just because I have weak ankles so I'll research (I do my Cathe workouts w/standard cross-trainers which have been making me feel a little wobbly lately!)

I'm very excited - I'm sure I'll be asking for your help in the future!

Brenda- Tennis is soooo much fun. Keep us posted on how you do. Let me answer your question from the other post about time. I play for 90" at a time. We ususally buy 90" of court time per match. 90" is about right for 3 sets if there are not too many duece games.
