Tanning Salon

Does anyone go to the tanning salon anytime or in the winter? I'm interested in getting your feedbacks. I've been at the beach every weekend this summer and really like how I look with a tan and am thinking of the tanning salon for the winter. Does anyone know if Cathe and crew go to the tanning salon or do they just get their tans the normal/usual way? Your feedbacks - pros and cons - will be greatly appreciated. Thanks in advance.

Enjoy your workouts!

Nette,

Personally, I don't like to tan, because of the risks: premature aging, skin cancer. Tanning in a booth runs the same risk as spending time outside in the sun. I'd recommend trying different brands of self-tanner to find one that works well for you. The formulas are different than they used to be..they don't make you turn "orangey" anymore. And, you won't have any regrets later. :)

While I also love how I look with a dark tan I would suggest that some caution be exercised. Because of the changes in our atmosphere tanning in the sun is becoming dangerous in that it greatly increases one's chances of getting skin cancer. Not to mention that sun damage is one of the biggest causes of premature aging and skin damage. If you must be in the sun I would suggest that you use no less than an SPF 30.

I am adamantly against tanning salons. You expose your skin to light intensities much greater than normal daylight. And the fact that one is encouraged to a) increase exposure time with each subsequent visit and b) come back time and time again means extreme risk of developing a skin cancer. I also find it unfathomable that they sell products at these salons to facilitate even deeper penetration of the light. I think the risks so outweigh the aesthetic benefits.

If you'd like to maintain a tan appearance in the cooler months, I would suggest a good self tanning product. For everything you ever wanted to know about self tanning, there is a website, www.sunless.com.

I will now dismount the soapbox:7 .

I also hope that I do not offend you with the passion of this post. A college friend of mine (and former beach tanning buddy) is having serious health issues caused by excessive sun exposure (not cancer, thank God!, but none the less serious).

Take care,
Sabine
