STS...wanting a lean look.....

I haven't made the plunge into purchasing STS yet. What I'm considering purchasing Meso 1 + 2. Plyo legs in Meso 3 doesn't interest me at all because of my knees.

My goals, physique wise, is for nice definition, but more of a long, lean look. If I only purchase Meso 1 and 2, will this help me reach my goals as I'm envisioning or should I do something else?

Also, are the exercises different in each Meso?

Opinions/Suggestions?

I started seeing definition while in the middle of Meso 2, so yes...I think you'll definitely get something out of doing just the two.

However, seeing as how we're all so different, I don't think anyone can say with certainty that you'll get the exact results you're looking for. Only you will be able to determine that after doing the program, and even then, diet will play a key role.

Yes, there is a variety of exercises. I can't quite remember from Meso 1 to Meso 2 (I did the 6 month rotation, so those exercises were done quite a while ago), but I do remember things changing up quite a bit until Meso 3, where the exercises aren't as varied.

This is true enough. I guess if I just get the entire set, just avoid the plyo legs section and experiment.

The thing is too, I don't have a lot of equipment (no tower) and probably roughly under 25 lbs in various weights. From what I remember someone saying once, it's not necessary to have a huge variety, just whatever suits you. Does that sound about right?

I have the whole set and just finished the 3 1/2 month rotation. I really liked it, and trust me when I say that I was skeptical. I am naturally thin and have long muscles (what's the correct term for that?!?). So, at the end of the rotation I can say that I am pretty darn cut. I def. look like I work out, which I like. I also have bad knees and ending up subbing in whatever cardio I could during the cardio sections of Plyo Legs, like high knees, fast front kicks, fast back kicks, speed skaters... I can do most kickboxing moves, so I used those moves during the times I couldn't jump or do the other moves. I still got a heck of a workout and saved my knees.

I do think that the long, lean, cut look you're ref. to is genetics. I don't mean that workouts can't help that, but if you naturally have shorter muscles then when you build it will have that "balled up" look, for lack of a better description.

HTH- all my rambling.

Thanks for your input! I totally understand what you mean. That's great to know you had good results and especially with subbing you did instead of doing the Plyo legs sections. I'm glad to know someone is in the 'same boat' as me in that regard. The muscle I have is long too so what I'm envisioning should work.

Did you have a lot of equipment btw? Also are the exercises different in each Meso set? I remember someone saying they thought they were the same and the only thing different is the weight used. Is that true?

Thanks so much!!

I don't have a barbell or squat rack. I do have a tower for pull-ups, not Cathe's though.

The exercises are diff for each Meso cycle.

HTH. I've really enjoyed the program and the results.

I don't have a barbell or squat rack either. I didn't have the Tower for pull ups at the time, so I did them on the bar that runs across my treadmill.

Weights up to 20-25 pounds will work well. I just finished Meso 3 and finally graduated up to 25 lb dumbbells.

What I would suggest considering are weighted gloves and maybe 2 pound wrist weights. As you go through the Meso cycles and go up in weight, you will find yourself needing just one or two extra pounds for an exercise, as a jump up to the next dumbbell weight might be too heavy at first. Having those gloves and wrist weights will really come in handy. I use mine in every workout.

For example, toward the end I was benching with my 25 lb dumbbells but had room to work. 30 lbs. would have been too hard for me, so I used my weights to bring the poundage up to 27 lbs. That was perfect.

That is a great idea with the hand weights and wrist weights!! I never thought about using them like that! Thanks!! Now if I remember right, even for pull ups, you can do those with a band on a door.

It's really great to know I'll be able to do this with the equipment I already have.

Thanks so much!!

Right. Cathe shows a modification for pull ups using a resistance band. Since I was going to use the frame of my treadmill until I got the Tower, I didn't bother purchasing the band.

If I remember correctly, some who did use this option reported that they didn't find it challenging enough. My suggestion would be to look into a doorway pull up bar. I believe quite a few Catheites use this and have had success with it.
