STS Injuries?

Okay, I haven't been here that long, and so I've never been through pre-orders and getting/using new DVDs as a group on these boards until now. I have STS, but haven't started because I'm finishing up Chalean Extreme first.

So, I've noticed a few postings about injuries from doing STS on the STS forum. I'm a little nervous now! Has this happened before with other Cathe series (where they came out, everyone started using them, and people posted injuries)?

I know it can happen to anyone, doing any work out, or almost anything. Heck, I remember I hurt my back (not majorly) bending over to pick up ONE CAR KEY before. So I'm not dissing STS or anything like that. I am wondering what you all thought about this, and any tips on how to make sure not to overexert ourselves would be appreciated. I know I have never done anything this intense before, just from previewing the workouts!

Thanks!

I can't speak for anyone who is injured. But my piece of advice is three words: Form Form Form. I often have to remind myself that it's okay if I can't complete every rep with the amount of weight listed in my 1RM if I can't do the last reps with good form. That's a sure path to injury. If the 1RM is really off for me, then I make adjustments for the next workout (I'm doing the 6-month version). If it feels like I'm close to completing the set then I leave it alone and give it another try the next time and try to finish.

I am just in Meso 1 right now. The STS exercises do not combine exercises, which I find easier to concentrate on form and go heavy. So even with sciatic issues, I have not had any trouble.

Anyone can hurt themselves doing a work-out, if they are not careful, have a weakness already, or just slip up. But then as you said, we can do that in everyday life as well.

I find these less prone to injuries, for me, than CLX.

I think its important to follow your own pace, I do think the rep speed is a bit fast even in meso 2. I had to slow down in the chest work (especially flyes) Cathe's rep speed was too fast for me. I"ve only had one serious training injury in my 20+ yrs of training, and I hope and pray I don't get another one! For legs I will be using a barbell instead of dumbells for the squats, heavy dumbells are just too akward IMO to keep good form, I think they (heavy DBs)encourage one to round the back and put undue stain on the back. In meso 1 I felt like I was tilting forward too much when squating, in meso 2 I"ll be going heavier so I"m gonna play it safe and use my barbell. I have a squat rack. I agree anyone can get hurt training no matter what workout they're using. Form is critical, so is knowing your body and not doing exercises that don't feel right to you.

I totally agree with what everyone else said. For a while I kept thinking that I had to lift whatever Cathe was lifting, . . . but everyone starts at their own level. I think this is why she has everyone doing the 1rm. Form is everything and if you can't keep up with her pace slow it down to your own. I find her push ups a little fast and I can't do them boy style if I go at the pace she does them. I just slow them down and finish them when I finsih them. That is the power of the remote control and rewind. Working out is such a mind thing. You really have to motivate and challenge yourself while really keeping it safe and as Cathe always says "Listen to your body!"
