Strong Knees

I've been having some knee pain during leg workouts, mostly low/static lunge type moves. I've found "Strong Knees" on Collage Video and wonder if anyone has a review of it? Or are there other resources you've used to help with knee issues?

I think it depends on what your knee issues are caused by. Is it arthritis? Is is musculature support around the knees being weaker? Do you know what exacerbates it? I'm sorry I don't know about the video you mentioned.

I have arthritis, which I discovered a few years ago as I was training to walk the Susan Komen. I've added more fish to my diet and supps include glucosamine - both capsule and liquid, fish oil, as well as hyaluronic acid.

For me it has also helped to strengthen the muscles that support the knee, but that has been a slow process. Many of you know I am a proponent of heavy lifting, but that is definitely not for everyone, so I think if you know the source of the pain it might help you deal with it. Sorry that didn't add much. I hope to find some relief.

I was helped by Jill Miller's DVD Kneehab, more than by Strong Knees. I have had the ACL replaced in one knee and had PT, but needed more strengthening, as general workouts were causing soreness. Now I am having no problems going heavy in STS.

You might want to check the Spinervals website (Spinervals.com) and look at the BodyWorksMD DVDs, which are developed/made by an orthopedist. I'm pretty sure there's one for the knee. In any case, I've used the foot/ankle one and it worked like a champ when I was rehabbing ankle tendonitis.

Also, using KT tape can help in the meantime while you are rehabbing any knee issue. They have a website that provides very easy to follow instructions on how to apply the tape.

Best wishes and I hope you feel better soon.

Awesome Thread! I too have had my ACL replaced in one knee and I had no idea there were videos out there to help me strengthen that knee. Thanks so much for the information. I am going to check out the videos. :)

I had an ACL reconstruction in 1999 and sometimes my knee gets achy. I've had the Strong Knees video for a few years now and it helps a lot. If I'm being diligent with my Cathes I don't need the strength section, but the stretching section is always fantastic.

Thanks for all your replies!

@Lsass I hadn't considered arthritis, as far as I can tell the pain is caused by lunges :). At least that's when it rears its ugly head. I've started glucosamine, but I need to get better at taking it every day. I'll look into the other supplements you mentioned, thanks!

@pam & swimmer, I will check out the DVDs you mentioned, thanks for the tips!

@stebby thanks for the review!
