Slow & Heavy in two days

I've never posted before, but would really appreciate some advice from all of you.

I know I've read comments from Cathe about how either PS or S&H should NOT be broken apart as the body parts on the tape are meant to be done together. I've spent a big chunk of the morning trying to find one of those comments and can't find anything. Does anybody remember what she's says about that?

I'm currently doing S&H, which I LOVE!! I would like to try to fit S&H into two days so I can add a whole-body weight day and hit each body part twice a week. (I really can only fit in 3 days of weights per week.) So I'm thinking about splitting Legs and Shoulders into two parts and adding one part to each of the other two tapes. So I'd probably do Chest/Back/Legs one day and Biceps/Triceps/Shoulders another. I will also probably skip the 3rd set of each exercise so I can try to keep the whole thing close to an hour. (I really only have about an hour in the morning before I have to pack lunches and get the kids on the bus.)

Any thoughts anyone? Anyone see any problem with splitting up S&H like this? Anyone tried something like this before? Thanks very much.

Lisa.

Hi Lisa,
I think that would be fine as long as you put at least one day of rest between the S&H workouts.
One thing I do when I'm short on time is I do two sets of each exercise, but do 12 reps instead of 8. This way I don't really miss any reps, but get to skip the extra rest time by not doing the third set. But I'm not sure you could do that in your time frame anyway since you'll be adding on an extra body part.

Hi, Lisa, I know Cathe had recommended not breaking PS up since it is designed to work primary and secondary muscles, i.e., working the chest works the shoulders so putting them together in a workout is effective. Slow and Heavy,on the other hand, works opposing muscle groups, legs and shoulders, biceps and triceps, chest and back so it is easier to break up into separate workouts and won't hurt your results. I do that with S&H because its longer per muscle group and I often can't fit in a hour long strenght training session! With PS, breaking them up might affect your recovery. Hope this helps!

Hi Lisa,
I posted this very question to Cathe about a week ago. I also wanted to get S & H completed in two workouts so I could have four cardio days or three cardios with one more total body strength day. She recommended doing chest/back with shoulders portion on one day and triceps/biceps with leg portion on another day. I've just started doing this and it is working great. Unfortunately, it takes about 1 1/2 hours to complete but that is doing all the sets. I hope this helps.
