slim series/slim in 6 question

I know this series has been asked about before, and in my searches I didn't find the answers I was looking for. I know that people's opinions on the systems vary, and that results vary...but I'm interested in a few specifics from those who have done the series - or know about them. I just ordered them and I realize I really don't know what to expect!

Are they step workouts - strength workouts? I know there are weights involved, but beyond that, I know nothing and i couldn't find previews, so if you can tell me what I might expect that would be great!!! Are the workouts knee friendly? I bought both series because I'm really having a hard time to get back into the swing of things, and I figured if I could make it dummy proof for 6 weeks and hopefully see some nice results, that may make it easier for me. It's worth a shot! I find that when I do Cathe - though I love her workouts - many are so advanced that I feel frustrated. Maybe this is a good way to get back up to that fitness level? I'm desperate and just need to make a committment to something so I can get back on my journey to health and fitness.

Any info you can give me with specifics on what these workouts are would be great! I appreciate it and I apologize if this has been asked before....as I said, I couldn't find it! Thank you!

I have slim in 6. It is all floor aerobics/toning. It is lots of repetative movements like stepping side to side, different arm movements, lunges, squats, standing oblique crunches, etc...all w/o weights. Then the toning section uses tubing (or weights if you prefer). It's low weight/high rep/basic exercises and then some floor work for the butt. This is what I remember about it. I haven't done it in quite some time...

To be honest, I hated it! The music was ...wait...was it even music??? The most boring, unmotivating crap I've heard on a workout video ever. And while Ms. Siebers (I think that's her name) looks great, she needs a lesson in counting. Many times, she says something like "Four more", and then 12 reps later, we finally move on to the next move. I thought it was just me at first, but then I started counting and realized, "Nope - it's not me." She'll do 12 reps on one side, then 15 on the other.

And the whole breathing thing: "sssshhh, ssssshhh, ssssshh".......you'll see what I'm talking about when you watch it the first time. Drove me nuts.

Don't get me wrong, the exercises can be challenging, and you'll probably feel a little sore the first couple times you do it, but man oh man is this exercise series B-O-R-I-N-G! At least it was to me. I think anyone who's done Cathe workouts will do well to stay far far away from the Slim in 6 series, but that's just my opinion. I think you'd do better to buy Cathe's Cardio Fusion/Basic Step, and her new Low Impact Step and just stop and rest when you get too winded. That's what I do with Cathe's workouts, because I'm nowhere near her fitness level, but the workouts keep me motivated way more than Slim in 6 did.

Don't take my word for it, though. Try out Slim in 6, and if you agree with me that it's just BORING, sell it on ebay. That's what I'm thinking about doing.

Yeah, it was pretty darn boring, Catwoman...I have to agree. I would have stuck with it though, had I seen results but I got nothing out of it personally. Maybe it was my diet at the time...I don't recall how I was eating so it could have been my own fault...

I don't have Slim in 6. I do have all the Slim Series though and I love them! I do better in terms of less injury with the low weights/high reps type of workouts, and I enjoy Debbie. These workouts give me a cardio effect as well and they're what I reach for when I want to shake things up for a week or so. I'm one of the few people who like the music in these workouts - LOL! If you search VF for SS you'll find it's a love 'em or hate 'em kind of thing. I guess that's why it's so great we all have SO much to choose from!!

What's nice is there is a "music off" option that allows you to use your own music. I put on a Powerstrike CD, and find it much more motivating than the music that comes with SS. And the moves are very simple, so it doesn't matter that you aren't quite on the beat with them (I just follow the music rather than Debbie), Debbie isn't on the beat all the time anyway.

I find that SS is a great workout for me when I absolutely don't want to think about anything even slightly complex when working out (I tend to not have to do that anyway when I workout--my brain gets enough work in my job). Sometimes boring works for me!

The SS workouts are all very similar, though. I like "Firm it up" lower body only, with no lunges), Cool it off (a 45 minute or so stretch workout with some knee stabilization and lower back work). The other ones all kind of blur together, so I had to write notes on the covers to tell them apart somewhat.
