Shoes for Aerobics

Hi Cathe,
What brand of shoes do you wear when doing step aerobics or high impact aerobics? I have found it difficult to find good shoes that don't feel too heavy for "bouncing" and have good support inside. I have used running shoes for aerobics, but have read that they are not good when performing lateral movements.

I am looking for the same answer! I have seen Cathe and crew wearing Ryka. I have heard many good things about them also. I am ordering a pair, but can't decide which ones. I have found pretty good prices at Sierra Trading Post.

Yes Nancy! Running shoes don't offer the proper lateral support for lateral movements. But lately, there are so few shoes offered just for traditional aerobic activity. Almost all shoes are low cut too. So I have had to step outside the box (no pun intended) and find options. I have a narrow and small foot and have found luck with NIKE Air Womens 5k+ sneaks. As usual, they have discontinued making them so I found some online and ordered lots to make it through a couple of years. Yes, they are running shoes, but in this case, they are extemely comfortable, don't have those gripping ridges that many running shoes have on the soles, and as added protection I use a lateral support insert. Since using these, I have literally been "jumping in my shoes" for joy. Btw, I also have luck with buying youth sized Nike shoes. But it seems they don't offer high technology in all of their youth shoes so I have to ask sales rep which ones do when I go look.

Good luck finding that perfect shoe. Feet come in all widths, sizes, and shapes. No one shoe works the same for everybody. Happy Hunting!

Not Cathe, but I am liking the Ryka's, too. I was wearing the Intensity 2 XT (crosstrainers) but seems they don't make those anymore, they are nice and light. I found some Intensity 3 XT's at Shoesontheweb.com on sale for $40, so I got those and the Ryka MC2 running shoes. Liking the crosstrainers alot, but I haven't got to run bc of the snow/weather. But I did wear the runners around the house for a while and they seem very comfy. They were also on sale for $40 at shoesontheweb.com Both pairs were $80 elsewhere so I got a good deal.

I had never bought from them before, though, and it was kinda wierd. I ordered both, and they charged my card for both. Then I got shipping notice and it had only 1 pair on there, and said a notice would follow if the order contained more than 1 item. Then I noticed the charge had been reversed off the acct, and I was only charged for 1 pair. I called, and they said they were out of stock on the one pair, and didn't know when it was expected back in. Bummer, but ok. When I get the package it had 2 pairs of shoes it (the original order), but my statement still showed only be charged for 1 pair. I called them last fri, and they said they would look into it and call me back on Monday (yesterday). I still haven't heard back, and I still haven't been charged for the 2nd pair. So maybe I'll get a free pair? Who knows, but kinda weird.

I used to wear Ryka but it compressed my forefoot too much yet my heel was slipping. I posted a similar question to the educated crowd here on the Open Discussion forum and someone suggested Asics Gel Intensity. They are not a mid or high top shoe however the offer much more cushioning than my Ryka's ever did and offer excellent lateral support. I have a wideish forefoot and a very high and inflexible arch...
ordered mine from roadrunnersports.com as I'm a member of their VIP thingie, good price, excellent shoe!

I have been using Asics Gel Intensity for about the past 7 months and love them. I user Superfeet blue inserts (my feet pronate so these assist with that) and only wear them for exercise. Super comfy and great support.

Julie,

I've been looking for a good pair of shoes for doing step aerobics and the STS program and luckily, came across this thread. I wanted to buy a pair of Asics Gel Intensity online, but I couldn’t decide what size I should order. Should I order these shoes 1/2 size up or in my normal shoe size?

Thank you very much beforehand.

LOVE my Under Armour Sneaks

Hi everyone,
I'm glad this thread came up again. I was having real tough time finding sneaks I LOVE ...which used to be Rykas. They are so hard to find I gave up. All I could find was running or walking. I tried on the Asics which I probably would have bought, but when I was at Dick's Sporting Goods, I decided to try the Under Armour (I think they are cross training). These are wonderful fitting, and nice looking too! Mine are orange/silver. These aren't too lowcut, lace up great and have lots of comfy cushion around the ankle area.

Do yourself a favor and look for these! They are probably about $65. I'm thinking about going and getting another pair just in case I cant find them again!

I went up a half size, I like to wear a slightly thicker sock and as they wear out, I tend to add an insole for extra support.
I'm really liking mine!

Dance Aerobic Shoe?

Hi everyone. I have a pair of Bloch Dance Sneakers that are great for pivoting and dance moves, but I have found that they don't give me enough shock absorption in the ball of the foot. Anyone know of a great dance aerobic shoe (that is good for turns and spins) and gives great shock absorption in the ball of the foot?
