Restricted from exercising for 6 month

Well, finally I hurt my heart muscle. Although I read many articles about the heart muscle, I didn’t know that I could make it weaker and weaker with cardio.
I had the flu few weeks ago and I didn’t recover from it. I started my routine too soon and the virus attacked my heart.
Now, I’m restricted from any physical activity to include no lifting, pushing, or pulling for SIX month. I can take a 15 minutes walk in the morning and the same in the evening. If I don’t take it easy I can die.
I don’t know how I’m going to do this.
I’m trying to lose weight very hard. I was able to stick with clean eating, I did cardio and weight lifting and from now I only can watch my Cathe tapes.
I know it sounds crazy to worry about your weight, when your heart doesn’t work well but I just don’t want to gain back the lost pounds.
Does anyone have idea how to maintain or loose weight without exercising?

Thank you and Happy exercising!

I'm sorry to hear about your heart troubles. It must feel very frustrating to want to exercise, but not be able to.

The best way you can maintain your weight during this time is to eat cleanly. Avoid all processed foods and sugars - center your diet around fresh things like vegetables and fruits, and whole grains. Low-fat and high-fiber is the name of the game. :)

Best of luck to you - hopefully the nex 6 months will fly by quickly and you'll be back into your exercise in no time. :D

Krisztina--Oh this has got to be hard for you, but you must take care of first things first. If you exercise too hard, you could die and that would not be a good thing. Eat clean and take your daily walks and remember that maintaining your current weight is better than gaining.

Six months will go quickly as the other woman said and then you can gradually and safely start an exercise routine again.

Keep us posted and continue to come here for support

(((hugs)))

Oh my so sorry to hear about your heart problem. Did you have a heart problem before you over did while sick with the flu? I agree with the other ladies. Health must come first!! Take care of you and eat healthy and I bet you can maintain your current weight. Best wishes to you.

Terri

Hi Kris, I am sorry about your condition for the moment, 6 months will go soon, focus in something else now, to recover by resting and giving your heart time to heal, in the meantime I am thinking maybe you can contact a nutritionist who will guide you in not gaining weight at all with a meal plan, according to your condition and needs, work with one and you will see you wont gain a single ounce.

No, I didn't have any kind of heart issue before the flu. The first sign was that my MHR was over 200.

Thanks for cheering me up. I will just watch what I eat and read what you girls write about exercising.

Hi Norma48,

Those pictures are very impressive. You did a great job with your weight loss.
You look so healthy and happy on the last picture. Congratulations, you must be very very proud of yourself.

Hi Ladies,

Thank you for your comments and ideas. I had help from a nutritionist in the past and I think I will contact her again. You were right, there is nothing else I can do , just wait and hope I'm going to be OK by Christmas.

I will focus on maintaining and will check back with the result.

OMG! Krisztina I am so so sorry. I had no idea you could do such a thing either! I think you've already gotten good advice. Is there any way you can continue with some light weight training w/o increasing your heart rate? Jeez I really sympathize w/you, I have no idea what I would do. I'll send positive vibes your way & I hope you get better ASAP!

Oh how I feel for you. I was injured for awhile but could modify and at least do SOMETHING! I am so sorry and hope that your 6 months goes very quickly for you. Maybe you could check with your Dr. and see if he would approve some lying down leg/thigh/glute work??? Or, possibly ABS or ARM work that would not elevate your HR?? If not, hang in there til Christmas and come here whenever you need some encouragement. Good Luck with your nutritionist and keep us posted on how you are doing. EXTRA thought & prayers for you!!

I didn't know you could make your heart muscle weaker with cardio either!!! I thought we are making it stronger with cardio!

I think seeking a nutritionist advice is best. I know it will be very difficult to stay put but you have to think of your herart :7

I think you can hurt your heart muscle only if that is already weaken by a virus or stress, etc...
A healthy heart muscle stays healthy and cardio just make it stronger. That is what I read about it.

Thank you for your support! This group is fantastic.
