Question for Francine and educated crowd

Hi. I have been hoping for some direction regarding my daily calorie needs. I seem to have trouble over the weekends with regards to "self control". I also have some issues in dealing with a friend of mine who has issues with food and takes several psychiatric medications one of which is an amphetamine. She is very open about this and loves how thin she stays and never feels like eating. She says they are great. It really disturbs me and I almost think of how she eats and feel like I overdo it at every meal; especially on the weekends. Any feedback????

Common sense would tell you that those drugs your friend is on are NO GOOD, and that you should not let her influence you to take them yourself. She will gain weight, no doubt, if and when she goes off the drugs, and she is learning nothing about good eating habits in the meantime. You would be smart not to compare yourself to her.

Please elaborate on your statement "I seem to have trouble over the weekends with regards to 'self control.'" What exactly does that mean?

Hi BabyD! I'd be happy to assist you with guidance of proper nutrition! If you can email me at [email protected] I have some questions for you to answer that will better help me assist you!(I'll be on later tonight after 830 pm) As for your friend's situation(and how she makes you feel) I feel sorry for her(she needs to see a counselor and work with a nutritionist/dietician before she does any more damage to her body) You shouldn't compare yourself to someone who has a very unhealthy habit! Fitness should be a lifestyle ,not a fad, you have to make smart choices! Looking forward to hearing from you!
Hey DebbieH thanks for emailing me this link!;)

Thank you for the replies. I will be taking you up on that wonderful offer for help Francine. When I say I have trouble over the weekends with regards to self control I mean I eat sporadically and I eat a fair amount of junk food/sweets. I feel like I have no control. I know I shouldn't eat those things in the amounts I do on the weekends but I do. I tell myself I will get back on track tomorrow and not to beat myself up but I do not seem to get back on track on the weekend days.

You may want to start planning a "weekend strategy," since you know this is your bad eating time. Do some research on junk foods that are not going to wreck your diet, like low fat microwave popcorn, low-fat, low sugar ice creams, and such. You DON'T have to give up goodies, just be smart about your selections.

I always recommend "Picture Perfect Weight Loss" as a good guideline for eating, as well as "Volumetrics."

I also noticed that you eat "sporadically" on the weekends. Don't let yourself get hungry, and carry some "emergency rations" with you so you don't give in to the junk food at the mall.

So, your key words for the day are "PLAN" and "DON'T LET YOURSELF GET HUNGRY"!

Just Do It! :)
