Question about mats and wood floors/tile floors

DH and I are about to start a remodel of our living room. We currently have carpeting and want to replace it. Our preference would be replace it with a laminate type flooring. We did this in the bedroom and it is gorgeous. My concern is that I workout in the living room and I am wondering if any of you all have laminate flooring and use a mat for protection. If so, any recommendations for types of mats?

Another option is to go with tile flooring, which we think would hold up better, but it sounds very hard. Does anybody workout on a tile floor with a mat? If so, how is it on your body? I am concerned about how hard tile is.

I have very old hardwood in my rental, and I use foam mats I put out each time I work out. I never noticed pain before I started doing that, but now I have to use them or my knees hurt. My mats are 1/2 inch thick. I got them on ebay, I think $14 with $10 shipping.

Anyway, sorry, I know I'm not answering your question. There have been a few threads like this in the past, I recommend doing a search and reading what other people do! I think searching for "cardio flooring" or "cardio mats" or something would get you there.

Sorry I can't be of more help, and good luck with the remodel!!

Tile is very hard on the body. People who have tile floor in the kitchen (which looks nice) often have back pain from standing on it too long.

Definitely go with wood with mat over it (I use puzzle mats I got at Home Depot...they really help with shock absorption, at least on wood).
