IMHO the BMI is just a fancy rewarmed version of the height-weight tables of yore, all tarted up with a fancy formula. Unfortunately, many established institutions (including insurance companies, the military, first-responder academies, and general medical practice) continue to rely on BMI and The Tables rather than get out their tape measures and their body composition measurement equipment to get an accurate reading of a person's storage-fat-to-muscle-mass (not to mention skeletal bone, internal viscera, blood and other bodily fluids etc.) which is a far better indicator of healthy body composition.
My suggestion is, if you want an accurate reading of your body composition, go to an established personal training studio that has body composition reading equipment and get your stats done there.
