Please help!

Hi everyone!
I need some suggestions for my problem. I'm 5'9" tall, and weigh 168 lbs. I recently lost approx. 30 lbs. I'm very happy with my progress except for one thing. I've lost fat from every part of by body, especially my upper body. My arms, shoulders, forearms, chest and back are very lean looking. The problem is my lower body. My hips and waist have slimmed down, but I still have pockets of fat on my upper outer thighs and lower abs. I'm starting to panic because I work so hard! I do 8 cardio sessions a week, weight training 4 times a week, and I eat very clean. Well, on saturday I allow myself some foods I've been craving during the week. The thing is I can't imagine working any harder that I am. Should I just keep doing what I'm doing or will I need liposuction?!I would appreciate any suggestions or opinions. My cardio sessions are a combination of Cathes dvd,s step,or spinning classes at my gym, and the elliptical trainer.

Joi622:
Please just keep working on it. You don't need liposuction. Losing those stubborn areas just takes lots of time and devotion. I'm just seeing results in those same areas you mentioned now after almost a year and a half and almost a 20 pound weight loss. Keep it up.

Dear Joi:

I can sympathize with you on this...I had the same problem. I worked out as much as I possibly could and although most of the results were terrific, I was displeased with my lower abs and saddlebag area.

You did not say how long you have been working out. Have you been working out a year or two or perhaps only a few months? Sometimes the results you are looking for can take awhile. Are you at or near your correct weight now? If not, keep on doing what you are doing and when you get to the weight that is right for you, re-evaluate yourself. Your problem areas may resolve themselves to your satisfaction eventually if you continue to exercise and make good food choices.

However, my own experience was this: I started exercise for the first time in my life somewhere around 1992. I was unhappy with the way I looked and decided to incorporate weights and cardio into my life in an effort to improve my appearance. No matter what I did though I could not get the look I wanted in certain areas.

I made a promise to myself. I would give it my best for two years. If, after that time, I was still unhappy, I would investigate cosmetic surgery as a possible way to reduce certain areas.

Two years later I was at a good weight for me. Most of my body was satisfactory except for lower abs and outer thighs. I had the surgery and the results were fantastic and I am glad I did it.

This is not the answer for a lot of people though. You have to decide this for yourself.

But if you have not been exercising very long or you are not at your correct weight yet, I urge you to give yourself more time. Do not exercise more (you may hurt yourself if you try too much). As a matter of fact, from what you posted, it seems you are already exercising more than most people do.

I hope this helps.

Marlene, you have been on my mind! How ironic you posted today, and about the topic I had questions about. I have been struggling w/ baby weight for 10 years (my baby is 10). Anyway, I look great except for my abs. I've tried just about everything. I'm about to decide that surgery is the only answer. Could you email me w/ any specifics about your surgery. Was it lipo or tummy tuck or both. I would appreciate ANY advice.
