Please give your own definition of 'clean eating'

Eating healthy, balanced meals that are low in fat/cholesterol and all of the that other "yucky" stuff and staying away from the junk food with the exception of the occasional "cheats" that everyone needs to stay sane!

That's my definition...now wether I follow it or not is a completely different story! LMAO!}( :p }(

Have a great work out!

To me it's eating food as closly to it's natural state as possible and avoiding refined carbs, such as white flour, and sugar.

I second that definition. (I've done this, most of the time!, for years, before it was called "clean eating," and was refered to as "whole foods" eating, which is the term I prefer, because it's more accurate.)

Good!:p I joined Diet Center at the beginning of the year to help me clean up my eating habits again and that's the closest definition of clean eating I've seen!! :)

NO: sugar, white flour, white rice, potatoes, corn, dairy
Lots of: chicken/turkey breast, fish, egg whites (a few yolks), brocolli, spinach, bell peppers, any other non starchy veggie, flaxseed oil, virgin coconut oil, walnuts, cashews.

This is clean eating for my contest prep. If I was just trying to eat better to be healthier, I probably wouldn't exclude dairy.

1.Real or unprocessed foods: Foods in their most natural state possible.(No partially hidrogenated oils, MSG (monosodium glutamate), preservatives, artificial flavors and colors, corn syrup, etc.)

2. Not using the microwave (Microwave is something that I limit or avoid because I have heard that it may alter the chemical composition of foods to a point of taking away the nutritious benefits of foods or even turn food into something toxic or carcinogenic. I don't know if it is true, but until I know I choose to limit or avoid it when possible.)

3. No refined sugars

4. Browns: Brown rice, brown bread, brown sugar(if any), etc.

5. Lots of vegetables, especially green, leaffy ones, and other nutritious foods like lean meats, chicken and fish.

I think for certain foods there are levels of cleanliness: For example, even though canned foods are not desirable, if it doesn't have artificial preservatives, etc., it may be a good alternative. So instead of choosing the first level -fresh, instead of canned- you(I) may choose a second or third level acceptable alternative.

Okay, judging from the true definition of "Clean Eating"...I certainly do NOT eat clean!!! I don't know if I could handle it either to be honest! ;( Oh well! I guess I'll just keep on eating my wonder bread and puttin' sugar in coffee, etc! A girl's gotta do what makes her happy, right? lol :+

I commend all of you ladies here that DO eat CLEAN!!! Seems like it would be quite the accomplishment to do it successfully.

Have a great work out!

I do not eat 100% clean. I think it is almost impossible. As I would see it, it would be everything in it's natural state with no additives. You would almost have to hunt down only fresh veggies, fruits, and take great care in meat purchases. Most meats have broth and water and additives as well. Find only whole grain products. It seems everything has high fructose corn sweetners in them. I keep reading all of these labels, even on low carb items with this stuff in them. It makes me mad. This is just my view. I just go for a more modified version for myself. You can even find a lot of junk in healthfood stores.

I eat foods in their natural state about 95% of the time. I developed a food alergy to citric acid several years ago and was forced to exclude a lot of processed foods. Once I quit eating processed foods I realized that I feel 'bad' after eating sugar, and even small quantities of chemicals. It's really not that hard, once you get used to it. As for the meats, some are processed with additives and I try to avoid those too. I don't eat a lot of meat anyway. It's just a way of life.
