Platemates or Pace Weights?

Quick question...

I need smaller weight increment for my STS (and it's a late Mother's Day gift). I already have 4X1.25 lb platemates. I'm looking at 4X5/8 lb platemates or 9X0.5lb paceweights. The difference is only 2 oz (10 oz vs. 8 oz) for each piece; total price is roughly the same. Do you have both paceweights and platemates?

-- Which would you prefer? I thought I heard somewhere that platemates are better construction than paceweights...

-- Can I use pace weights and platemates together since paceweights is attached to the side of the dumbell head and platemates at the end?

TIA!

Hi there,

I only have the Pace Weights, but I really, really like them. Some people have commented that it seems silly to have such small increments, but the small increments actually are fantastic for me. When doing smaller muscle groups like shoulders, I can sometimes only increase my weight by a 1/2 pound each time.

In theory, it seems like it would work to use both the Pace Weights and the Platemates together, but I'd be worried about how wobbly it might be that way. (You wouldn't want one to fall off and bonk you!)

HTH!:)

I have the Pace Weights too and love them! It makes it so much easier to increase weight for those smaller muscle groups. No, you likely won't use them for back or leg work but they are AWESOME for shoulders, triceps, and I sometimes use them for biceps.

Maybe its just a mental thing but I love knowing I'm increasing strength, even if only by a pound at a time!

Micro-loading is an effective way of gradually increasing your strength, in a way that isn't too noticeable by the body. Nothing 'silly' about it at all!;-)

I LOVE my pace weights. I first read about them here, and I'm glad I did. They are perfect, super easy to put on and off and work on both dumbells and barbells.

Another vote for pace weights. I got them about three months ago, and they have really helped. It helps to be able to increase 1/2 pound - you hardly notice the increase, and before you know it, in 4 weeks, you can increase a pound or two.

Well worth it, and you can order them on line. I got the carrying case, and think it is a good way to store them.

I agree. I bought a set with the case as well (I also have Platemates, and use them too).

I got Pace Weights and they work great for me. I use them mainly for upper body but recently used them for Step Ups.

Haven't tried using them on the BB yet (though I tested and they stick to my plates) since I can usually increase by 5 lbs at a time. Not lifting heavy yet:p
