Personal trainer certification???

I am ready to get my personal Trainer certification and I need help choosing a certification agency.

I actually want to get certified so that I can train my son who is 12. I know what I have done for myself to totally transform my body but I need to know what to do different for a child/adolescent.

I've narrowed it down to ACE - ISSA and ASCM. Has anyone ever dealt with any of these certification agencies??

I've searched the forums and read up on what you all and Cathe suggest for personal training certification but would like some updated info and I didn't see anything about ISSA. AcE and ASCM are NCCA accredited and ISSA is not. Do you think that is important??

Any help would be appreciated.

Do you mean NSCA? That and ACSM are the top tier certification organizations. I'm sure their exams are tough, but if you have the time and motivation to do it, I say choose one of them. Otherwise, I would choose ACE. I'm not sure how important accreditation is, I'm sure it depends on the gym where you're working. If you have the extra cash, doing ISSA (to learn from a practical standpoint), may be useful. The other certifications just involve well, a test. I'm thinking that ISSA gives you some hands on experience which can be useful for some people. Personally, I'm certified with ACE and I'm very happy with them. I'm also hoping to get my CSCS(with NSCA) as soon as I graduate.

Hope that helps...

Yes that does help. Great name btw ;-)

I'm not going to be working in a gym at all. My son was going to a youth fitness center where they were training him with weights until they moved out of state. I would like restart that training and also do some mentoring on the web for my friends. I want to be certified just to have the education to give my son and friends the best help.

In your opinion do you think that NSCA is a better route than ASCM??

Thanks again
