Pentagenarians & Beyond: October 5, 2025

I slept a little later this morning and had a different routine. I completely forgot to do my usual Sunday morning yoga! I did some of the stretches on my own but no structured workout. Yesterday I dealt with a broken water pipe in the front yard. Fortunately it was from the sprinkler system instead of main water lines. It started sometime late Friday and the HVAC technician who came for a service call was the one to bring it to my attention. It’s repaired now, but we will have a hefty water bill.

Cathy, great job with AOLIH and Fab Abs Express.

Have a wonderful day everyone.

mainly therapy yesterday plus a little garden work.. dropping friends off at the shuttle to the airport killed the morning. it was supposed to clear off but stayed foggy and damp all day.
today i did all therapy work and then we did a 15 mile bike ride. we have a nice stretch of decent weather this week.

too bad about the water carolyn!. those things can go a long time unnoticed. lucky the service guy noticed it.

(So apparently I forgot to actually post this) I did Low Impact Cardio Hiit and STS Disk 4 Chest, Shoulders and Biceps.

Today I did IMAX 4 combos. Halfway through the smoke alarms went off. I quick peak in the utility room, showed it wasn't there, so I ran upstairs to find that DH had apparently had issues with his breakfast. So, now I will be dealing with the stove, so that I can make my lunch. Called to make an appointment for the local brake place I was recommended and they are totally walk ins. She said they start taking people at 8, but they put out red stickers at 7 by the door, and you grab a number, so she recommends getting there early. This will be interesting. My sister likened it to a deli. LOL

Valerie great that you were able to get a ride in and good you are going to get decent weather. Today is out last day of 80's and then were going to more typical temps in the 60's.

Carolyn it's good that the water leak wasn't with the main pipe!

Today I did JS Pyramid Power Walk, 30 minutes, 187 calories burned, average heart rate 129, and maximum heart rate 162.

Valerie, nice job with therapy and garden work.

Cathy, great job with Low Impact Cardio HiiT, STS disc 4, and IMAX 4.

Hello to Judy and Diane Sue.

Saturday I did a Peloton 30-minute outdoor walk/run. Yesterday I did 30 minutes of Peloton strength and went for a walk with my husband for around 45 minutes. Today I did a 45 minute Peloton HiiT ride.

Carolyn-I’m sorry about the broken water pipe in your yard. It’s good that the HVAC technician found it. Great job with JS Pyramid Power Walk.

Valerie-Great job with your therapy work and bike ride.

Cathy-Great job with Low Impact Cardio Hiit, STS Disk 4 and the IMAX 4 combos.

Hi to Diane Sue

Today I did Jessica Valant Full Body weight workout adding a warm up to it, 27 minutes, 79 calories. I went much lighter than she did. She does give lots of form pointers. She has longer full versions, but you have to pay 59 dollars a month to get them. That is not happening! She does a lot of pilates stuff. I then did Lift Move and Restore Cardio Bonus, 14 minutes, 87 calories, heart rate 122/154. I also did Jessica's short scoliosis moves it is shorter than the 17 min one I have done before. I also did some costochondritis moves and stretches.

Carolyn, that is good your HVAC people caught the sprinkler line issue. I had one break when my husband was in Iraq and the water bill was huge. I had to turn the water off in the whole house to turn off the sprinklers. They did not have a turn off valve. After lots of searching I had to have a specialist come out with equipment to find it as it was buried. My son and son in law dug up a lot of places they thought it would be. I turned on the water to bathe etc. and then shut it back off. They put in a new turn off box for the sprinklers. I just had to deal with the water situation for several days.
Nice Job on today's Jessica Smilth Power Walk.

Valerie, nice work on getting in the therapy work and 15 mile bike ride.

Cathy, good job on I Max 4 combos today and yesterdays Low Impact Hiit and STS disk 4 chest shoulders and biceps.

Judy, nice job on Saturday's I Peloton 30-minute outdoor walk/run and yesterday's 30 minutes of Peloton strength and a walk with your husband for around 45 minutes. Good job on today's 45-minute Peloton HiiT ride.

we have always had trouble with our water system. when the house was built, the water line had a kink in the pipe. we had to install a pressurizer for decent water pressure. this was both good and bad. we should have forced the builder to fix it, but it took a long time to be clear where and what the problem was. if we have a leak, the pressurizer is activated its not loud but you can tell if water is flowing . if there's a leak we know it soon. we had a pipe connection pop off in the basement. we were visiting across the street
. it was running maybe an hour. luckily it was on an outside wall. hundreds of gallons of water mostly flowed outside under a basement wall. we were so lucky. the original plumber did not have the connection done properly.

going to walk this morning. i walked our yard yesterday for 30 minutes and had my first day at the new PT place. it is very promising for relief. i am so happy thinking some different exercises and stretches will fix this enough to be ok. not like i was 20, but livable.

nice morning but cold. we rode the 15 mile trail even though it was in the low 40's. warmed up by the halfway point. came across an enormous pile of bear poop in the middle of the trail.

Today I did X Train Chest, Back, and Shoulders, rounds 1-5. That was 39 minutes,134 calories burned, average heart rate 112, and maximum heart rate 142.

We think that the irrigation system pipe was weakened somehow when we had the large tree removed a few months ago. It was at the control box that was near that tree.

Judy, great job with the Peloton walk/run, Peloton strength, and walking with your husband.

Diane Sue, great job with Jessica Valent Full Body Weight workout and LMR Cardio bonus.

Valerie, that’s good news about the new PT place. Changing things up a bit might be what you need.

Hello to Cathy.

Today did not go as planned. Not up early enough for any workout, left in time to make it to my tire rotation, and then got stuck in a back up on I-94 for an accident. I called and told them I'd be late as the delay was at least 15 minutes. I got there 10 minutes late, and had been put behind the people who had come in, and he said they could probably get me done by 11! It wasn't even 9:30 at that point. I need air in the tires, if I wasn't getting a rotation, but they weren't doing air checks outside today, just in bays, which were already busy. I made an appointment for next Tuesday. It was raining pretty good, so I decided to just head to my parents and try the Discount Tire there to get air. That worked, then went to their place. Rain moved on early afternoon, so I did the zoo then, though only one round. I was only the 26th person to visit today.

Valerie I'm glad that you feel that the PT is going to be beneficial.

Diane Sue $59 a month is a lot, pricier than any other similar thing I've seen.

Hi Judy and Carolyn.

Today I did KCM’s Cardio Quick Fix workout one, 26 minutes, 183 calories burned, average heart rate 135, and maximum heart rate 163.

Cathy, what a frustrating day you had! You have more patience than I do. I’m not sure that I would return to that tire place for another appointment! Nice job with RWH Low Impact HiiT 1 and STS disc 5.

Hello to Valerie, Judy, and Diane Sue.

We walked our usual park walk this morning for 1 hr 20 minutes. absolutely empty, and lovely out. i saw some porpoises but only briefly. thought i saw some way out in the bay , then they came surfaced much closer but disappeared again.
cathy it isnt hard to air up your own tires once you know how. not every service station has air and water available anymore though. we keep a pressure gauge and in the glove box. just a thought. if you needed tires rotated anyway, i would definitely let them do it all. since you called them you would think they could have cut some slack.
we finally bought a small pressurizer. we have 4 bicycles, a riding mower, several garden carts with wheels, a wheelbarrow, a hand truck, 2 cars, a truck, etc. every device with rubber wheels can ( and does) go flat! its really handy to air things up at home rather than figure out how to get the piece of equipment to a place with air hose. weve had it for decades. one of those things you didnt know how useful it would be until it was.

ETA $59 a month is a ridiculous amount! maybe for a year?

Cathy, I have a portable air compressor that is very easy to use at home (or anywhere). AstroAl is the brand and I got it on Amazon a couple of years ago. You enter the desired air pressure and the machine stops when that psi is reached.

Yesterday I did a 45-minute Peloton full body strength workout and 20 minutes of foam rolling. Today I went for a short walk with my husband and did a 30-minute Peloton ride.

Diane Sue-Great job with the Jessica Valent Full Body Weight workout and LMR Cardio bonus. I looked at Jessica’s channel and her workouts look good, but I agree, I wouldn’t pay $59 a month for her longer workouts.

Valerie-I hope your PT goes well. Great job with your park walk.

Cathy-I’m sorry you had such a frustrating day. Great job with RWH Low Impact Hiit 1 and STS Disk 5.

Carolyn-Great job with X Train Chest, Back, and Shoulders, rounds 1-5 and KCM’s Cardio Quick Fix workout one.

Today I did CDorner Cardio Fun to the Beat, 32 minutes, 199 calories, heart rate 126/161, 3,560 steps, Jessica Valant 25 minute Lower Body weight workout, 20 minutes, 81 calories, and Jessica Valant mobility, 14 minutes, 33 calories. Total time 67 minutes, 313 calories. I have to get up early for an eye appointment so headed to bed. There was some good form pointers on the lunges to help protect the knees. I usually do not step as wide as she does and she says not to lean forward. I went over her website and she does a zoom meeting to help out for 350 dollars for an hour:oops: I might as well just go to the physical therapist. It is nice that she has PT background as well as pilates instructor background, but that is a lot.

i do new exercises from PT, still doing some of the old ones. 2 are very easy, more stretches. 3x a day. the other is a bridge with my feet up on a physio ball. i do 10 of those once a day. those are not very easy. once a day to start. she said it will be 6-8 weeks before i notice much but Im hoping for sooner of course. we do not pay a copay. we have straight medicare plus a supplement. we pay a fair amount monthly for this coverage but it has been worth it. we felt being limited to a particular network would not work for us at all, especially if we had an accident or event in montana. if you need to pay a copay for every thing it quickly adds up. PT alone is expensive! Diane sue that is a lot. go someone in person instead! we all have home equipment. DH and I go to enough sessions so we have the exercises down, and then continue them at home rather than go to the office.

thanks for the agreement Carolyn. i never would have thought we needed a pressurizer until our riding mower had a flat tire. with a pressurizer you dont have to take off the wheel. you can check if it will hold air and buy a new tire if needed. with all our riding we have gone thru many many bicycles and many many flats. it turned out to be an incredibly good handy thing to have. weve helped out neighbors too. its not so easy to get a riding mower to a service location if you cant air up a simple flat.

This morning I did XTrain Bis and Tris, rounds 1-5. That was 28 minutes, 81 calories burned, average heart rate 104, and maximum heart rate 130.

We are having unexpected guests this weekend. My husband’s niece is coming tomorrow for a few days. I’m not prepared for visitors but it will work out.

Judy, great job with Peloton strength, foam rolling, Peloton ride, and walks with your husband.

Diane Sue, great job with CDorner Cardio Fun to the Beat, Jessica Valant Lower Body Weight workout and Mobility.

Valerie, the new PT sounds good. I have a hard time with glute bridges on the ball. I should practice doing it more often.

Hello to Cathy.

Shopped yesterday, and today I just did STS 2 Total Body Stretch. My appointment was for a tire rotation, just happened that I need air. I can do it myself, but it's a pain to find free air. I've had vehicles that were a huge pain in the neck when it came to tire pressure, we had a van that the sensors kept dying on, so you had no idea if the pressure was good. I get free tire rotations there, and I get that they make no additional money off a free rotation, and that they would put people in front of me, just happened that they had more walk ins than usual. And they are renovating and honestly the waiting room was so crowded, I wasn't unhappy to reschedule. I've got an appointment early Monday for a brake inspection. I opted to just go to Midas, because while I'd like a locally owned place they all seem to do just drop offs, and since none of them are close and I'd need DH to give me rides, I opted to skip that. First appointment of the day, so I'll just take plenty to do in case it's takes awhile.

Valerie I hope the PT helps.

Diane Sue that is a lot! And if you did in person PT, once you know what to do than you can do it on your own.

Carolyn enjoy your visitors. Unexpected is logistically harder, but hopefully the visit is nice.

Judy are you enjoying our cooler fall temps? The sun helps, and I like wearing leggings/sweaters, sweatshirts, but the mornings are brisk!

it used to be easy to get air and oil checks. alas, not anymore. we have discount tire, we have Les Schwab, no Midas here. most gas stations don't have an air hose, free or pay, and many times they dont work right. we have a separate gauge. one of those that pop up ones to show air pressure. it helps when you have a defective sensor telling you a tire is low when its the gauge itself. remember gas station attendants who knew something about cars? long gone.

did 3 sets of my exercises yesterday. today we are trying for a hike but the weather is very iffy so it might not work. going with some friends.
