NPR's Fresh Air Episode about the financial bailout

Last night's episode of Fresh Air (9/23) was Terri Gross interviewing Gretchen Morgenson about the financial crisis we are going through. I am kind of slow when it comes to understanding economics, but I feel like Morgenstern really explained things well. It is infuriating how we got into this crisis! All I know is if those CEOs get to keep their pensions, bonuses, etc. there should be nationwide riots in the streets. And the people making the decisions are the one's who got us into this nightmare.

Everyone needs to watch their money...stash it under the mattress guys, it ain't gonna be pretty!

as a farmwife...we take a gamble every day of every year as we produce grain and raise our cattle (I realize subsidies are a failsafe for some...but many small to medium farmers don't qualify) Investment banks have taken a hit...but they aren't guaranteed income, or are they? Farming took a MAJOR HIT in the 1980s and many farm families had to take jobs in town to supplement or get out all together...the govt. wasn't there to bail them out...I would be very disappointed if the CEOs come out smelling rosy (or even good at all). The decisions they made got their company where it is...if common taxpayers are expected to pitch in an share their burdens...then what reward have we been given when they were profitting? only if you bought shares would one reap any reward...

I have a hard time watching the news knowing that decisions being made are going to affect us for generations to come...the govt needs to be sure it is not setting a dangerous precident or otherwise won't every failing business expect a hand out?
not that I understand everything about economics but I really like reading what fellow Catheites have to say. Guess I might turn into my great grandma and start stashing cash in secret coffee cans!!!

Unfortunately, due to the inflation that's going to take place as a result of this bailout, the value of the dollar will continue to go down (prices will be up) and you're going to lose no matter how careful you've been with your money!
