New STS'ers - Week of 8/10-8/16

Cathlete
Hi ladies, hope you are having a good week so far!

Last night I started off with week 2 legs. Oh my goodness...for some reason that workout felt much harder than last week's leg workout. I skipped the low end static lunges, the firewalkers, and those last 3 band exercises, and I still thought I was going to puke!

These workouts are flying by and I really like them. Wish the music was better, though.

Hello,
Well done on doing this, but did you have to scare me like that? LOL, I won't do the legs disc until Friday, now I'm afraid ......
I have been doing good on getting the workouts in except for this morning. I only got 30 minutes in because my little one had gotten me up at 2:30 in the morning. Needless to say, I had a hard time getting up this morning. even with coffee.

I agree with you, I wish they still had the music like they did before with well known songs, but I saw in the forum that it is just too difficult and costly for them to do that. I know that even hearing the generic of the LowMax CD gets me going. It's so much fun, sometimes I want to sing along.

OK, I am desperately trying to keep my eating under control, because I don't want to gain weight with this (I have read some have though not a lot). I'd be fine just getting strength but I don't want to gain weight. The key is in the eating/pudding or lack thereof. I did take my measurements though and maybe I'm imagining things, but I think "things" are tightening up! Woohoo! I have a desk job so I really need to get active with the little time left during the day.

OK, since I started STS, I have only gotten one ab workout in :( I am really going to have to work on that.

Let me know how your legs are doing tomorrow

I feel like a runner who trips and does a face plant after a few steps after the race starts. :( My lower back was pretty sore so I rested and did yoga and stretching for a couple of days. Still not sure what I did but am now feeling better.

I did a Leslie this AM to loosen up a bit. I'm going to try Legs tomorrow with light weights. I hope to get to Disk 2 later this week. Wish me luck!

W I'm now officially scared to make it to week 2!

Helene nice job on the fancy trackers! I'm planning to be one of the few that has a nice weight loss on this program. The key for me will be to be an obsessive food tracker.

Guess I should tuck in soon so I can get up early tomorrow. Have a good one!

Hi Sharon,

Lower back pain is never pleasant. I have been struggling with it frequently in the past. It seems to be common for me. If you do legs tomorrow, be carefully especially on the deadlifts. I know for me I have to be very careful that my lower back is engaged (like an invisible little bend at the low back) otherwise if I overstretch or pull it, it can be quite painful. Hopefully you are already better.

I am with you on the weight loss. And yes, that means being an obsessive food tracker. But make sure you take your measurements as well, this program makes you a lot stronger and that is another way to measure progress.

Have a good night!

Hi Ladies!

I totally agree with your comments about the music. I wish it was better but understand it's gotta be very pricey to get the rights to use it. I did about 3/4 of disc 4 today. Was supposed to do it yesterday & LowMax today but that's all I got in. I didn't get home from work until 9pm last night and 9p again tonight. And I had to remote back in right when I got home. Ugh!

I was actually totally mad this morning too because I actually gained a lb! I suppose I didn't really eat that well this weekend but certainly didnt think it was enough to gain a lb. And yes, I know how much our bodies fluctuate with water weight but that was still depressing - because I KNOW it's not muscle weight yet!

Now back to work!

I did a core yoga warmup, Disk 3 and PLB stretch this AM. I used light to no weights; kept the deadlifts shallow and had a good ole time. I was actually surprised when the w/o was over so kept going with the bonus blast. I'm not sure I'll ever be able to get my thigh up high enough to balance a plate -- ha! I agree with the music comments too. Oh well.

Helene, I did peek in here this AM while drinking my protein shake and saw your comment re: deadlifts. Thanks!

Kel Yes, you are correct -- our bodies fluctuate with water weight. I can have wild swings and know that it isn't 'real' but it still can be upsetting.

I finished disk 4 tonight and am going to try to do 5 in the AM but I'll see what time I get up! My dogs keep wanting to play and lick my ears & face during the push-ups. As if they aren't hard enough to do!! Things should let up a little bit at work next week and I should be able to get more sleep then. Have a nice Thursday tomorrow!

Good Day! Today I did some of Bouba's Amazing Step + Core Yoga floor work/stretches. This was my first time w/ Bouba and it was lots of fun. Obviously I could have worked harder w/ Disk 3 if I had enough oomph to do a step w/o today. I'm going to try to do Disk2 tonight to get back on schedule. This weekend looks pretty busy and I don't want to get too far behind.

Hi guys!

H, I had a nice mild soreness in the glutes and I've been liking the soreness I'm having in my quads. My quads almost never get sore - it's always hamstrings and glutes.

S, I was just probably having an off day - I'm not sure if week 2 legs was that much harder than week 1, or if it was me.

K, don't worry about that pound girl! : )

Yesterday was week 2 chest/triceps/biceps. Those bow & arrow pulls at the end were killer. I have some good upper body soreness going on right now. For some reason I have been finding the ability to push through the burn more than I have in other workouts...maybe it's because I know I only have to work each muscle group once a week.

Today will be some cardio, and then back & triceps Fri.

Hi Ladies,

I didn't wake up early enough to tackle disc 5 today. Might be a good thing since my shoulders are still sore from disc 4 - probably those bow and arrow pulls! :) Seriously, that band is fierce. I'm wrapping up July's financials at work so I shoudl be able to breathe soon! Since I'm supposed to get thru disc 6 this week, I'm going to shoot for doing disc 5 tomorrow and 6 on Saturday to catch up.

Sharon - How's your back feeling...and who in the heck is Bouba? I thought I'd heard of most all of the step workouts!

W - What rotation are you doing? Seems like your workouts are in a different order?? Also, what's your name? I dont' remember seeing it on your profile...but that could have been sleep deprivation on my part.

Helene - I hope all's well in your world today!

-Kelly

Yeah, It's Friday! Ah, but it's also legs day.....

Morning ladies,

Sharon: LOL, the only Bouba I know is a kid's DVD that annoyed me so much I hid it for a while! :p Hope your back is doing well.

Kelly: Really great job in getting these workouts in with this kind of schedule. It can't be easy. I took yesterday off because I was wiped and wanted to make sure I have my recovery day. Too bad I went for the chocolate too though. I really do need to stay on top of my eating.:(

W: I loved the seasaw pushups in Disc 5. I hope you had a good cardio day yesterday.

Great job everybody getting these workouts in. It looks like even that part is a challenge for everybody with how busy life can be!

I am going downstairs for disc 6. I just printed the card and guesstimated on a couple 1RMs. That w/o looks tough!

I'll be back later to report.

Helene

I have every 2nd Friday off -- but have been running around all morning. The leg DOMS hit this AM. Yowza... it was hard getting out of bed!!

I slept in a little late and did a bit over 1/2 of Disc 2 Back/Triceps using my 1RM calcs. I feel plenty worked. I'd planned to do the 2nd half later but lost momentum.

I had to take DS to a doctor's appt. Came home, took DD to volleyball practice, came back home and looked at all my equipment all over the place and decided to put everything away. I'm eager to get to week 2, but I'm thinking I'll repeat week 1. STS is all about progressive overload -- I'll just move a bit slower than most. :p

My back is feeling tight from today's workout but it isn't in a bad way. All in all I had a good first week. My energy level is good and I lost wt. I updated my 1RM numbers in Workout Mgr so hopefully I'll hit my stride with the w/os next week. I also took my measurements.

LOL re: Bouba. I got it during Fitness Organica's sale last week. Here's a clip http://www.fitnessorganica.com/products/BoubasAwesomeStep.html

Have a great day!

After vacuuming I did Get Sexy - Seven Foundation Movements + Cardio & AM Yoga Twists.

Another new w/o for me. Hate the name, but loved the workout. The cardio was about 25m - 15m med ball cardio/10m floor work. It will be very good for strengthening the weak spots in my side/back that I've tweaking lately. As an added bonus there is a pretty good cardio effect.

I'm having a date with DH today. We are heading to the beach for lunch and a stroll. I may even get into my bathing suit. The kids are going to see GI Joe with my Mom & Sis.

Hope you all are enjoying your weekend.

Hello,

Sharon, what a funny w/o name! LOL. But great that it was a nice workout for you after all. A date with DH on the beach sounds heavenly. Too bad I am too far from the beach! Well done on the crazy Friday schedule. Your take on the workouts for the last week sound very good. It will keep you going. My weight isn't budging too much, but I know everything feels tighter. If I took the measuring tape out, I might see progress. But I don't want to take it out too early either and be disappointed as I am doing well and am very motivated right now.

Kelly: I hope that next week is going to be easier for you. Did you ever get disc 5 and 6 in as you planned. I did disc 6 yesterday and I still feel that in my buns.

W: You weren't kidding about disc 6. It really was quite a bit harder for me as well. I had sweat dripping down my chin, and the previous discs did NOT do that for me. Yowie!

I did Imax Extreme for cardio this morning. My rest day is on Thursdays so I had to keep going. I find it a bit easier to have it during the work week so I don't get too run down. I think we are going to a water park later today and maybe again tomorrow, it is a bit steamy outside this weekend!

A great weekend and great workouts to everyone!

Helenen

I did a walk & yoga this AM. Then did STS Disk 1 + Pyramid Upper Body stretch before dinner. It seemed harder this time -- maybe because that is my low energy part of the day.

Anyway I'm feeling pretty pleased for getting it done. My DH's car is in the shop and we'll commute together/leave early tomorrow AM -- so I don't have high hopes for getting a workout in.

Helene Thurs are often my rest days too -- I usually hit the wall then. I hope you had fun at the water park!

Kelly, I am doing the 3.5 month rotation. I just mix up each week's DVD's as I need to. Like tonight I did week 2 back/tri, so tomorrow instead of doing week 3 bi/chest/shoulders, I'll probably do legs.

Sharon, congrats on losing weight and hope you had a good date night. We all need those for sure!

Helene, I am glad someone else found disc 6 hard and it wasn't just me. : ) And wow, Imax Extreme!? That just sounds scary.

Did 45 minutes of week 2 back/tri (I really need to look at the disc #'s). What are you guys doing for pullups/chinups? I have my barbell on my Valor Squat stands and am using that, usually with feet flat on the floor and knees bent, back almost parallel with the wall. I make sure I really hang as much of my weight as I can from the bar. Hopefully that makes sense. It's pretty hard for me that way, but of course I can't even do one pullup or chinup. I wonder how long it takes women to get to that point usually?

See you guys next week!
