New here - need help with choosing DVD

After reading this forum this week, I ran out and purchased the 40" step which came with Cathe's basic step workout. The cardio part was a lot of fun and the weight segment was, to say the least, extremely challenging.}( I'm not sure I'll ever work myself up to the poundage that Cathe uses. I did notice that there was no legwork on this tape though. Can someone recommend a DVD that has a good cardio as well as a weight section that works all of the body parts. I need to give a little more attention to the thighs and abs. I've just turned 42 and think that I've reached that age where the weight is a little toughter to get off. I've been doing the elliptical for 30 minutes, 2 to 3 times a week and weights 1 to 2 nights per week. I've never had to work this hard. I really need your help in picking a good workout routine that I can stick to and is fun. I especially love the idea of having all the workouts on one DVD. Thanks.

I really like Boot Camp/Muscle Endurance DVD. Both workouts hit every muscle group. BC has some cardio too - it's circuit training.
However, they use a high step in these workouts.
My next recommendation would be Step Jump Pump / Step Blast DVD. Both are cardio, but SJP uses weights in this workout as well. There are a lot of Premix workouts in this DVD as well.

Came back to say WELCOME!!!:7

First of all, welcome. You can get the ctx series dvd. You have six intense cardio workouts 30 minutes of lenght and you work triceps one day, back the next, biceps and shoulders. In the ctx You have a hard lower body workout learner legs.In the dvd you will find the upper body split with all the upper body work and the abs split too.Antoher suggestion is the body blast series . Inside the BBS you have a lower body workout legs and glutes, one of the best lower body workout I know. Hope this helps and welcome.

I would recommend the Body Blast Series, too: Step Blast for the cardio, Legs & Glutes for the lower body. However, I'm going to admit that I have had to work my way up to Legs & Glutes with the Pyramid Lower Body. On the PLB, I use lighter weights and dumbbells instead of a barbell, and I get a great leg workout. I've been doing PLB for a few weeks now, and tonight I'm going to try Legs & Glutes again.

I'm really looking forward to it. :p

actually... i'm gonna recommend body fusion first.. it's cathe's intermediate step circuit... it's step and weights in circuit format.

it's much easier than her other stuff!

then, if you want to get harder.. i would recommend the body blast series. it's a fun series but easier than a lot of her other stuff!

then i would get ctx. i just LOVE ctx! shorter workouts and a great variety!

if you plan on getting pure strength.. get it here (or before ctx) again... this was a workout that "easier" than pyramids that is included in the intensities

then it's time for the intensities! this is my most favorite series.. however, since i bought this as my second set of workouts.. it kinda spoiled the rest of them for me (i.e. body blast) cuz i got so good at the intensities and the terminator workouts that body blast was just too easy...

so rather than make the same "mistake" i made... i want to offer my humble opinion!

I agree with Stayfit:) on the Ctx series!! This is the one that I started with. LOVE this series!! So much you can do with it!!

I wanted to say that if you are looking for maybe one DVD, KPC with Legs and Glutes would be my recommendation. L&G really works your lower body and whenever I do KPC (putting everything into it), I really feel it in my upper body the next day. KPC also has a good ab work out on it.

If you are going to splurge for more, I personally like the BB series and the Intensities because they seem to have a little of everything.

As far as matching Cathe on weights, I used to think the same as you, there was no way I was going to match her, but I find that as I strengthen and do more of her workouts, I am in some cases. But I do not think I will ever match her in the biceps weights! LOL:)

Have fun shopping!

Thanks for all the replies. I think I may be buying more than one DVD. They all sound great. The CTX Series sounds sounds manageable. I like the idea of 30 minutes of cardio and working a different body part everyday. I like the idea of quick and intense workouts. I think I'll first try that and the Body Blast series. I'll let you know how things are going once I get the DVDs. Its just too bad I can't just buy them out of a store. I can't wait to get them at home. Thanks again for all your help.

You are in for a real treat! Sounds like you are hooked already! A new step and all! The CTX is a wonderful series and had everything included: Step aerobics, Hi/Lo, Kickbox, intervals, circuit workout and lots of AB work, both traditional and also core/plank work. I think you are going to be very happy. Body Blast has an awesome workout for the LB called Leg's & Glutes, one of my all-time favorites. Let us know when your goodies arrive. They are worth the wait! Have FUN and WELCOME!

Hi, just wanted to say WELCOME, so glad you're here! I think you made wise choices & I know you're going to love them.
We're all a little intimidated by Cathe at first, but truly as time goes by you will be amazed at your strength & endurance gains.
Have fun!
Ruth:) :)

Thanks DebbieH and Starlight6. You are all a godsend. I ordered my CTX yesterday. I took me quite a while because I kept adding other DVDs to my order and taking them off again. You can really get carried away reading all the workout descriptions. But I decided to go ahead and order the CTX alone. You can't beat 6 workouts on one DVD. I'm taking the week of the 27th off. I should have the DVD by then. I can try all the workouts during that week. I can't wait to get started.
