Link problems on STS page in the Workout Manager

Trying to click the"How to take a One Rep Max Test?" link and it takes me to a page asking for a Flash plugin, which, to my understanding, is very outdated and no-longer-supported technology on most browsers. Is this on YouTube anywhere instead?

Also, when going to check the links in the STS PDF User's Guide, I get security warnings about the domain thecathenation.com

Hopefully with their discontinuing DVD sales they take some time to update the Workout Manager.

If you click on Tutorials on the top ribbon of the WM... those links still appear to work and link to the YouTube videos. Cathenation was an old site name used when STS came out and was connected to SNM's affiliation with NFL Films when they filmed/edited STS. I don't think cathenation links work anymore. The Workout Manager could use updating for sure.

STS guide was not offered for free. The full 36 disc pack is normally sold with a printed comprehensive book. If you need a pdf, you will need to purchase it, I am afraid!

I downloaded the PDF when I had an OnDemand subscription.

Hope I get a hard copy with my DVD order - that would be nice.

The hard copy is well made. I think you will like it and fully read it.

Mine has been fully used lol:D I want another copy.
There is a bunch of cathlete who follow the program in gym by taking the book with them:);)
Congratulation @Kellyro77

No link for the "how to take a one rep max" tutorial on the tutorials page, unfortunately. Do the DVDs have instructional videos on them? Mine are supposed to arrive today, so I guess I'll find out soon enough.

Read the 1st posting -

Try this:
Yeah - I saw that video on how to use the calculator and input the details into the WM. Was just hoping to see her demoing actually doing a 1RM test (ie:, picking up some weights or something). Guess not.

Thanks, though.

Bummer - my DVDs arrived but no hard copy of the user's guide. Maybe they're out or I was supposed to pay extra for one.

That is a bummer; it came with the preorders. Maybe contact Customer Service to check if it was supposed to have been included first before purchasing.

I don't recall a video of Cathe performing a 1RM test. But Chris' explanation is pretty straightforward. You can guesstimate the weight to try by looking at your XT Burn Sets worksheets - I track my weight and reps on that last set to failure (poor form creeping in or a plain 'ol fail) - then pick up the next heavier weight and try it for the 1RM. If you're going over 15 reps, you lifted too light to get a good result. Rest, then try another heavier weight. Once you get a few done you'll have a feel for how to proceed. You can use your weights from STS2 too to guess which weight to test it out.

I would go back to customer service about this as the User Guide is supposed to be part of the total STS package. I ordered STS years after it was released and got the hard copy of the User Guide. If they are out of hard copies they should at least send you a download copy.

I have just checked the dvd shopping plateform and Hard copy are no longer in stock. There won't be any extra printing process, IMHO. Meso 1 is also sold out! Yes this is the end!

@Kellyro77 I am sorry to hear you did not get your hard copy. At least you have the ebook.

Yeah, the testing is pretty straight-forward. I started working on my 1RM calculations yesterday, and am realizing I'm actually quite a bit stronger than I thought. Like... I was thinking, oh I'll test my 1RMs for flat Chest Flys with 25#s - well... crapola, I got to 20 reps before I finally started to feel like I was going to burn out. Looks like I need to go back and re-test that set, at least.

Overhead tricep extensions are so fun to test to failure, because man, when they're done - they're DONE. That arm ain't moving that weight any more. :p

I posted in the other thread I started about the users guide - sent the CS email a message to ask. I suspect they're just completely out-of-stock.

Also - this might be obvious - but I'm also testing my 1RM against my weakest side for anything unilateral. Or, where my tennis elbow is concerned - because it HATES traditional bicep curls with either a barbell or dumbbell - I'm testing up to when that arm says "no more".

Should I instead be testing against my strongest side?

Might be in that 1RM thread that's stickied, but figure since I've got you all interested right now, I'd ask here.

Thanks!

and am realizing I'm actually quite a bit stronger than I thought.
Lots of us discovered we actually could have been lifting heavier in our workouts. Thats partly why STS is so educational. We learn we're capable of lifting heavier than we thought. It really helps us challenge ourselves in Cathe's other weight workouts, based on the type of lifting.

I think this may be a personal preference thing. Definitely don't exceed the capabilities of the injured/weaker side for that side. If you want to match, you can. You could also lift un-matched. When I had shoulder surgery I didn't want to lose strength on my non-injured side so I lifted unmatched and had goals for my recovering side to work toward. It eventually matched, took a long time though. You'll see Cathe in the Lives lifting less for her recovering shoulder too, still now even though it's been over 2 years since her surgery - it takes a long while. Just don't overdo it on the injured side -that's the risk- people want things to match, which may be the eventual goal. But know & honor the weaker or recovering side's limits, as Cathe role models in the Lives.
