I need some help with kickbox. I really do not understand how to do it. I don't understand what it is exactly I am suppose to be having my body do for the different kickbox moves. Can you please help me understand? I don't feel like I get much of a workout by just doing the moves and it appears others really get a great workout so I think I am doing alot of things wrong!
I'm glad you are feeling better Cathe

what is it you don't understand? is it the punching or kicking? it requires alot of rotating the body for punches and for shuffles which i didn't get at first, don't have your legs close together. that works better for me.side kicks turn your heal in.cathe explains it mostly in kpc.

I don't understand the punching or the kicking. Like how hard do I do it? I also don't understand the snap recoil thing. You mentioned rotating the body, I don't think I really do that at all. I have mostly been trying out the older Kickbox tapes so maybe I'll try kpc. Thanks

Hi Michele! I definitely think watching the instructional section at the start of KPC will help you. As far as the snap recoil goes..while punching you want to extend your joint to about 95% full extention and then pull it back as fast as you threw it out. Imagine that you are sticking your hand (or foot when kicking)into an alligators mouth. How fast would you pull it out if that were the case?

As far as rotating the hip goes, in order to send a powerful kick out from the back leg in your fighter stance, you need follow through with your hip since that is where the power is generated. If you just do a cross punch with your arm (and not include forward thrust of your hip), it will be a much weaker punch then if you rotate your hips around and continue to follow through with the cross punch.

Hope this helps!
