Jaw Pain

Just wondering if anyone has suffered from this. I have pain in my right jaw and it has been difficult to eat. This has never happened to me before and I'm not even sure what kind of doctor to go see. The first couple bites hurt a lot and then it seems to loosen up and I can eat a little better, but if I move my jaw the wrong way, ouch.

Hi Kathy. I never had this happen, but I used to work for my brother who is a dentist and I remember some patients coming in w/ jaw pain.
Maybe some of the others have personal experience w/ this. Hope it goes away soon.

It could be a problem with your TMJ (temporomandibular joint) - you may want to see your dentist first and he may refer you to a specialist based on what he thinks the problem is.

Have you been clenching your jaw or under an unusual amount of stress? There have been times in my past when I have hardly been able to open my jaw due to unconcious clenching from stress. It hasn't happened in a while, thank god. But I would recommend trying to conciously relax your jaw off and on, see if that helps.

Hi Kathy,
My husband is a dentist and he said you should consider going to a dentist for this problem. Sorry you are in pain x( ... I hope this info is helpful to you!
Cathy:)

Thanks for the responses. I have an appt. with my general doctor tomorrow and we'll see what happens from there. I also have a little bit of congestion too, so I'm hoping its all related and maybe an antibiotic will make it better.

It's probably not going to be that easy though.
