Implants

I can't believe that I'm actually thinking about this. Has anyone gotten breast implants? I really am starting to look like a boy. My breasts have slowly and steadily disappeared over the years. This year, I'm not even filling out my 32 A's.

I always thought that I'd be the last person on earth to consider such a thing, and I know I wouldn't get huge implants; they'd look silly on my body...but the other day when I was putting on my bikini top I thought, Good God, why bother? Just wear trunks and no one will know the difference.

I know Lasik would probably be a better investment since I love the water and swimming so much...but my flatness is really starting to bother me.

I know there's a few Cathe ladies who've had them, and there have been a number of other threads about it. You could try doing a search under "Implants" and see what you come up with.:)

I know what you mean though. I really don't want mine to be bigger. I'd just like them to be back where they're supposed to be:p

i know there are lots of threads on this, however, i dont know if reading some of them are such a good idea. i know wendy will give you good advice. i got them about 4 years ago, and i have thoroughly enjoyed them. however, i would be just as happy now if i didn't have them. they do get in the way sometimes, and it is a major decision to make. lasik is certainly a good choice too. i am going to get that done in october. i hope you do lots of research before making your final decision and good luck with whatever you decide.

btw, when you have a nice muscular body like so many women here do, people usually notice the muscle definition more than the boobs anyway or at least i do....

I don't have them, but certainly think that people should do what makes them happy. If you are unhappy with your breasts, then do it. Many people do. I am happy with my natural breasts...but if they started to sag/shrink someday (which I am sure they will!) I wouldn't totally rule surgery out.

As far as Lasik goes...I did that 5 years ago and it was the BEST decision of my life. I can't begin to describe the difference it has made. So...if you are trying to make a choice between the two surgeries...I vote for the Lasik! Good luck with your decision.

Here here to Lasik. I got it done 2 years ago, and I am so so so pleased! Especially if your a swimmer and you are severly nearsited. I play with the idea of getting implants. If you've got the money and you think it will make you feel better about yourself than by all means go for it. My only thought about it is not to get them too large. I have heard of many people regretting that.

Maybe if you get Lasik you will realize that your boobs are still there...you just couldn't see them!;)

So sorry...I just could not resist!!

Weigh it carefully and decide what is best for you. Talk to people that have parallel lifestyles as yours and don't concern yourself with peoples opinions on the actual procedure because that doesn't matter. Research like your buying a new house and then some. See several MD's...just to get information. The better informed, the better the decision.

Everyone I've talked to that has had Lasik has LOVED it. My eye doc said I'd be an ideal candidate, and I just love the idea of waking up and being able to see clearly first thing in the morning. And being able to swim a few laps and not have to stop periodically and do a contact lens check under my goggles. :)

I've had severe myopia since I was a little girl, so Lasik really appeals to me. Did you have any problems with night vision after the surgery? That's a caveat I've heard, although no one I've talked to has experienced it.

leanbean,

You are right - waking up first thing in the morning and being able to SEE was like a miracle. I just couldn't get over how it felt. It was a magical, free moment in my life. And yeah...swimming, exercising (getting sweat in your eyes!) and everything else is just SO much easier. Not to mention my eyes were always red and irritated from my contacts and my glasses were annoying as heck.

Regarding night vision - I didn't have any trouble. However, I will add that I had my Lasik done in a special way. When I had my first consultation ("TLC" - The Laser Center) they told me that a lot of people with pupils as large as mine could have trouble with night vision after the surgery because the lasers that are approved to be used in the USA are smaller than what my eyes needed. He told me there would be a strong chance of night halos and such. My option was to have the surgery performed in Canada, where they were approved to use larger lasers. TLC has offices in Windsor, Canada and lucky for me, I lived in Detroit at the time, which is right across the border. So...I had my surgery done in Canada with the "larger" laser. Keep in mind, this was 1999, so I am sure A LOT has changed since then - for all I know the US has the larger lasers now, too. Regardless, I will say that I highly recommend TLC. It's the same place Tiger Woods had his eyes done. They really are a class act operation - I felt like royalty the whole time I was there. They are really good. It is pricier, but there is a lifetime guarantee...if you ever need to have your eyes done in the future (say in 20 years) they will do it for free.

Okay, thought this post was about dental implants, but it wasn't. Just want to say that dental implants are the bees knees and have it all over getting a bridge. Pricey but worth it for anyone who plans to live a long time and keep eating.

Sorry to interrupt, but I just love my implants and want to share it with the world!

Nancy....ROTFLMAO!!!

Ok, I admit it: I HAVE BREAST IMPLANTS. I got them about a year ago for all the same reasons. Surprised the hell out of all my friends who didn't take me for an "implant type," whatever that is. I used to be a normal 34B but nursing my babies took them out completely. And all the weight training seemed to make it look worse. I got 270 cc implants. Not too big at all. Just made me a little bigger than I was before babies. They are fabulous. I had a tough time with the anesthesia afterwards, so heads up on that. I was sick as a dog. It takes quite awhile for the new boobs to soften up and drop down, so do not get ancy about that. It took mine almost a year to drop down to where they are now - and they are terrific.

I also had lasik many years ago - it's a miracle. Do it right away.

My mother has been talking forever about getting dental implants and I wish to goodness she would. I think she would really love them...but she's very frugal. Just will not pay for them. I figure if you have the money, and it's something that can enhance your quality of life so much, why not? And still she balks!

"Implant type" I'm with you, exactly what is that? I think the two people in my life who are strongly against this surgery think that I'm going to purchase some enormous rack. I'm thinking a B cup would be really nice.

I have a consult on the 27th. We'll see. My DH is not supportive (ha!) of this at all.

And the Lasik thing simply must be done. I'm going to Baja Sur in July and August, and would like to have it done before then, but I'm not sure I'll have the funds. Quarterlies are due. :( It'd be really nice to snorkel at least once without having to worry about glasses or contacts.

Dental implants - What are they?

Breast implants - If you've got really saggy boobs, will it pull 'em up?

Lasik - I got Lasik 1-1/2 years ago, best thing I ever did. I had a little halo action initially, but it's not much now. I have heard it is quite a bit cheaper over the boarder in Canada.

Well i for 1 say go for it.
I have thought about it. Scared that it may hurt.
I have dropped from a 34 c to a 34 almost b and shrinking still.
My dh says go.
You never know.
I would just like to pull the boobs back up and fill them back up.
I haven't had te guts to do a consult yet.

Heather-
If you don't have such great teeth, you will occasionally have to have an extraction. To fill in the empty space, for years dentists were using "bridges" which means that they file down the neighboring, healthy tooth to a stub so it can hold a bridge which fills in the empty area with an artificial tooth. Sometimes more than one tooth has to be filed down to hold the bridge on.

Implants are permanent tooth replacements that attach to your jaw bone and are just like a real tooth, and they don't harm any neighboring teeth. They generally last the rest of your life. To have an implant, you must have enough good healthy bone for the implant to attach to. The older you get, the more bone you lose, so it's best to have it done as early as possible. Leanbean, your mother should act fast!

Leanbean and Anne - I personally found that the pain and discomfort after the breast implant surgery was practically zilch. And they put you totally under for the surgery itself. The most memorable part was the doctor drawing on my chest with a Sharpie to outline where he was going to place the implants. You can choose to have more cleavage if you want - I chose not to because I thought it would look a little unnatural. I had the implants placed under the muscle. When you wake up, your chest is bound VERY tightly with bandages to make those implants stay put despite your muscles' attempts to shove them up and out. You will be given a prescription for pain pills and for Phenergan (anti-vomitting) when you go in for your pre-op the day before. Fill them! I didn't take any of the pain pills but I used every single one of the Phenergan suppositories and still threw up my toenails from the anesthesia. But that is strictly dependant on the individual. My friend just had it done and didn't feel sick at all. Then, the next day you go back in and they take off the bandages and you can breathe again. My doc told me not to wear a bra and NOT to do any weight training for several months on threat of the implants moving and having to be redone. I complied and they really look terrific. I just had lost confidence in my chest's appearance - even in bed... and certainly in a bathing suit or snug shirt. I feel much more feminine now. }( }(

I have been thinking of implants for sometime too. But a friend of mine who did the procedure said she wish she had considered the fact that there is no feeling afterwards, ever, especially in the nipples. Can you comment on that? I would feel extremely weird if my husband and I were trying to be intimate and I was numb in that arena. It would be like he was playing with a rubber doll and I was just watching, in my mind that's just too bizzare. Also, another concern she made me aware of was that once you start implants you have to keep re-doing them about every five years. Something about the skin's elasticity and the freshness of the pack itself. Is that true in your case? I went to a consult once, and he sort of tap danced around these questions, so that made me a little skeptical.

I hope someone can shed a little more light here.

Thanks so much

Carrie
