Help!

Several different stressful events converged in the last several months to totally disrupt my schedule. I have all but stopped exercising and have only gazed longingly from a distance at my collection of Cathe videos while situations beyond my control consumed my time.

Now I'm ready to dive in again and I'm finding it tough. I still love my Cathe workouts and I WANT to want to exercise. :7 Does that make sense? However, finding the emotional energy is hard.

I've thought about reverting to some of my FIRM videos. I started with those and they are easier. However, I can hardly stand the idea of anything but Cathe.

Does anyone have some advice about how to get myself back into things after some time out? I'm more concerned about the psychology of the whole thing. I know I've lost some strength and stamina, but that will come back quickly if I can just get back into the routine! Help, please!

I am going to reiterate what others have suggested to people in your situation so I take no credit for the idea.:)

Wanting to want to exercise most certainly does make sense so let it be ALL about the fun for the first while. Choose the workouts that you absolutely love doing. The ones with the least dread factor and the most fun factor. It's a great way to build up some physical and psychological momentum and get back into the groove. After a few weeks mix it up by setting a few goals and adding in workouts that will push you and help get you there. Getting started really is the toughtest part. You can do this!

I know exactly what you're talking about. I took about a year off from exercise and really just started back in earnest a month ago. I'm 50 and my capacity for cardio is bad, very bad--lol! I began with Leslie Sansone walking work outs which are very easy but it's all I could manage to start with.

I haven't done step work outs since the mid 90's so I'm getting back into it with Cathe's "Official Beginner's Rotation" that she pinned on the Rotataions forum. I just completed my first week and I have to admit, I've made progress but it's hard for me. I can get all the way through Basic Step using the platform only. I'm hoping to advance to 1 set of risers this week.

I suggest you start slowly and gradually add to your work out. It's hard to start from scratch but if I can do it anybody can. Trust me on this--lol!

Good luck and welcome back to the world of fitness!

Hi:)

Laurie and Michele have posted great advice. I just wanted to give you a pat on the back and say go to it...you will do it. And continue to post for support and a push. Just ask Michele, we'll push ya to move it - won't we - in a totally nice and fun way.;-) :7

P. S. It's fun!

Thanks gals for excellent advice. Laurie, what you said really resonates with me! I keep thinking of what I "should" do, and that's not motivating me.

However, I think that picking my fun and favorite workouts would be motivating. The ones that make me in a good mood to do them. Actually, I'm getting excited just thinking about it. Save the "dread" factor workouts (read "Boot Camp")}( till after I've gotten back into a routine. And with Cathe, even the fun factor workouts get a lot accomplished.

I don't always have the opportunity to post regularly, but I'll certainly touch base as often as possible for inspiration.

Thanks
Laura
