I thought I would go ahead and get us started. I got a good nights sleep last night finally:D I am going to do cardio and abs this morning. I am also going to do those moves Dallys posted for the shoulders. My shoulder is feeling pretty good again today so this weeks exercises have not aggravated it. I may have to stick with what I did this week since it is working. My hamstrings are sore this morning. Wish my butt was!! I am trying to build both though:) Hope you all are having a wonderful weekend.

Teddy, when do you get to see the new grandchild?

Good Morning Maniacs!!!

Today is my rest day and I need it. Don't have anything in particular planned, and that is good for once cuz I just need to force myself to chill out. lol. Well today is definitely not as warm as yesterday and I need to close the windows...brrrrrrr.

Glad you got a good nights sleep and the shoulder is doing better. I am sure you will reach whatever goals you have in mind..there is no doubt about that!!!:eek:
 
Today I had a pretty good workout. Worked back and biceps. Not stellar and I really didn't feel like working out, but I did it and I think I did good.

Not really any upage in weights. Shoulder is still bugging me and I woke up with a little ping in my neck. I slept wrong.

45 second rest between each set

Measured my bicep today and it's at 13 3\4" :eek:
 
Lora - Not sure you'll see this, but I'm responding from what you said yesterday. I should not give out any advice here given my situation, BUT... I have read all your posts in the past about your dh. He brought you down so he could control you. I think what Suz said is dead on, listen to that advice. You deserve so much more then that. And I think you answered your own question about him changing -he can't. If he was already getting testy with you then unless he gets some MAJOR help, he won't change. People can change, but they have to WANT too. Hugs girl!!!

That is really impressive bicep measurement! Soooo very jealous. lol. The chinups are REALLY good!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! Don't seem like your tired today.:eek:
 
Happy Saturday!!!

I just got back from a ride. I know I said I was going to take off now until January, but there was NO WIND after the 45mph winds we've had all week. I couldn't believe it when I woke up!!! It was only 36 degrees but I didn't care! I just had to take advantage of it. I only saw one other cyclist on the road and it was my cycling partner (and president of the cycling club) and the one who made me crash last May - no seriously, I'm totally over it! :p I didn't know she was riding this morning and she thought I was taking off. We only got to ride together for about 10 minutes b/c she had to get home b/c she was going to a college football game. I was starting my ride and she was ending hers.

Anyway, today was a much slower ride than last weekend with DH. I have a little Imitrex hangover from last night and my OTHER knee was bothering me today. It's been bothering me just a bit. DH says I'm just getting old. :mad: The wind had started to pick up and with my knee bothering me I didn't feel like pushing too hard. Excuses, excuses!

I never did get my cardio in last night. That headache got worse until it required Imitrex. The Imitrex worked but then I'm useless. I have a bit of a headache today again. Hopefully it will stay like it is and not get worse. I was doing really well with them.

Diane Sue - Thanks for reminding me. I def need to do abs today! I've been slacking. I'm glad your shoulder is feeling better. I will get you those exercises.

Char - Good for you forcing yourself to chill out. I know that is really hard for you! You're a true MANIAC!!!

Debbie - Another awesome workout. Congrats on your personal best for chins!!!!!!!!!!! I'm so impressed!!!! And those biceps. WOW!!! I hope you get over this slump of not wanting to work out. I'm glad you keep pushing through. Could it just be the time change?
 
Forgot to mention - remember the other day when I said that my forearm was bothering me again when doing bicep work and it hadn't bothered me for a long time? Well, I mentioned it to the athletic trainer at work and he asked me what I was doing when it hurt and in talking through my routine that morning b/c I couldn't remember exactly and he said most likely the hammer curls were what did it b/c of where it hurt - along the bone on the outside of my forearm. Makes total sense. He had me do all kinds of stuff but couldn't recreate the pain. So I'm going to cut out hammers for awhile and see if it stops. DH is right - I AM getting old. :mad:
 
Morning Maniacs! This morning I did Imax 2. Had a puke status workout, literally! I was seconds away from puking and barely made it through the stretch, I'm still nauseous.:confused: Don't know what happened there. Could be cause I'm super SORE from yesterdays workout (P90X+ total body). Maybe it was to much to do Imax the day after that. I can hardly move in my lats and my arm pits and chest are killing me. It's a miracle I got my sports bra on!;)
Nothing like a few pull-ups to shake things up.

Debbie- Speaking of pull-ups, 16 chins! Holy #%$* girl! You are rocking it! I think my max on chins was 11. Gotta get back to that. Great going on the bicep measurement!

Char- Enjoy your rest day. I'll be taking mine tomorrow for sure. Cold weather makes me want something warm out of the oven. Maybe you need to bake something, since it's colder there today.:p I've been trying to create a sour dough starter for over a week and it's not working out for me. I want to make some bread, dam*t!

WD- Let me know how you like those shoulder exercises.:) They seem simple but they really loosen up my tight upper back along the shoulder blades.

Suz- When I do hammer curls I can slightly feel my tennis elbow pain (and that's in the forearm). I have to be careful with those too.

Teddy- Was it you that asked me if I was doing a P90X rotation? I'm not, but I'm going to be adding in some of the P90X+'s with some Jari Love's. I'm trying to go through some of my unused DVD's.:) Basically, I'm doing 3 total bodies and 3 cardios a week for Nov.
 
I finished my workout. Talked to dh on the phone for awhile:D Anyway workout was as follows:
Tracey Steahle's Steady State Step starting with the power premix(no stretch) then I did the whole thing minus the warm up. Working on the choreography. I burned 588 calories and cardio was 1 hr 17 min..
Then I did the Total Body Solution Shoulders that Dallys posted. I finished with the ab work from Oxygen magazine 12/08 issue. ALl of this was done in slow concentrated moves tri-sets at 15,12,10 reps
hanging knee raise
bench v sits
bench reverse curls
Then I did Buts and Guts abs with 5# ankle weights and 5's and 10# dumbbells and finished with the stretch. I did add a few shoulder moves with my yoga strap and shoulder stretches to this.
I weighed in today and have dropped to 111 this week:0 I have felt like I am overeating due to food quantity. My calorie stats on my fitness pal has been under on calories so I guess I should not be too surprised. I thought maybe it was off. I need more calories or less cardio. I really wanted to check my bodyfat but could not find the instructions to how to use my accumeasure digital fat caliper. I do have a regular one if I can't find it. I know I sent it to someone and should have it stored in a computer somewhere. Anyway it is to late now that I have eaten and drank a lot of water and coffee so will see if I can do it tomorrow. One good thing is tightening up my diet has made some of my definition more prominant in under a week. Now I need to work on the sodium a little more.

Dallys, I liked the shoulder exercises. One thing I have been doing everyday which has helped is to pick up my yoga strap and stand with my arms up and rotate them out and down behind my back several times. Just seems to open them up and keep them in full range of motion. I really do not want them to tighten up in one position. Yea, I would guess it was the pullups:) Guess you need an upperbody break for a couple of days.

Suz, funny but my dd in the medical prfession always seemed a little surprised that Imitrex wipes me out. But then she says people react differently to meds. I avoid taking it unless I feel like I am ready to beg for help. It always messes me up for awhile. Workouts are awful afterward. But it does help get rid of that headache. It is always do I want to deal with the side affects or try something else. My right elbow hurts sometimes when I am doing bicep curls with a barbell. Not sure why. I don't think I have had any problems with the hammer curls though. That one always seems easier to me.

Charlotte, it is cooler here this morning. The heater cut in for a little bit and I have it set for 69 degrees.

Debbie, nice workout anyway. I do hate have pain and not knowing where it is coming from
 
Diane Sue- Great workout! You are amazing! That shoulder exercise you do with the yoga strap sounds a lot like the band pull in TBS. Is it the same? Great you got to talk with DH today.:)

I'm feeling better now, was able to eat finally. I just paid bills and am heading off to the bank. Also need to pick up some diet Pepsi.:eek: I have drank tons of water today though!
 
Dallys, that move is similar except you pick up the strap holding it taut and raise your arms from the front over your head to your back then slid it through your hands and pick it up and repeat. They do a similar move in Yoga Shatki only she goes straight from front to back to front on shoulder openers. I do think that yoga is a great addition to our workouts. I have only been doing shorter segments intermittently though. I used to spend a lot more time on it. I need to go out too. Have some shopping I need to get done since I have no grandchildren here. I need to go back and look at your drink recipe yesterday and write it down. I don't have any recovery drink here right now though. Been using a drink immediately post workout from my muscle chow book that has Malt flavored Ovaltine which would give some fast absorbing carbs minus the hfc. and has protein powder in it. I am a little annoyed with Vitacost because they are usually fast getting my orders here but this time I ordered quite a bit and I think that their shipping is different as the package would weigh more. I had ordered Optimum Nutrition protein powder, and Twin Labs PM formula as well as lecithin and Stevia. Along with my glucosamine I purchase from them regularly. The thing is glucosamine chondroitin is only good if you keep up with it. I have been without for 5 days now:(
 
Diane Sue- Yeah, that looks like a similar exercise. They have an option of sliding the band through your hands like that if your shoulder can't handle coming back up with it taut. I need to do more yoga too. My body is just craving stretching and yoga the older I get. It just feels so good after wards. I also think it help to prevent injuries.

I went to the bank and my car suddenly swerved and pulled into a garage sale (how'd that happen?) I then came home with a heavy duty punching bag for $45. I actually had to come home and get dh to lift it in the car. I couldn't even budge it. Wonder where I'll hang it, lol!
 
Dallys, I have always done quite a bit of stretching. But never started doing yoga till I got P90X. Didn't know what I was missing out on:)
I used to do all of the warm ups and all of the stretches on the workouts even if I was going to use more than one. I also never counted them as part of the workout. Now I do because I realize flexibility is part of it.
That's a good deal on the heavybag. I have my big heavybag stand with the speed bag on the other side. Wish I could pull it out into the room more so I had more room to work around it. Just to much stuff LOL
 
I totally blew my clean eating today!!!!!! We went to Macaroni Grill and I wasn't too bad (I only had a couple pieces of bread and I had whole wheat pasta with chicken and asparagas in it) but then I went to Wal-Mart for groceries and I have no idea WHAT posessed me to get those Milano Milk Chocolate cookies. I never eat those things. They just sounded good. And I ate all but TWO of them!!! I gave one to each dog. What is my problem??? No, I'm not PMSing. I don't PMS. It's not that time anyway. I'm so disappointed. I've been doing so well and making so much progress with my workouts. Sheeeesh! Granted I have room to gain weight, but not THAT kind of weight!

Okay, got that off my chest. Tomorrow is a new day.


Diane Sue - That's some workout you did! Nice! I do hate that if you miss the glucosamine, you're in trouble b/c it's one of those things that has to build up in your system to work. That's a bummer. I don't know what it is about Imitrex, but it really does wipe me out. If I have to take it when I'm working, which I really try to avoid, I'll take it with 2 Extra Strength Excedrin because of the caffeine to help me not be so tired. It helps a little bit. I ended up taking another one today. It helped. I really hate to take them but I can't stand the throbbing after awhile and I knew I needed to get to Wal-Mart and get my grocery shopping done.

Dallys - I would say you should have your car looked at! :p Nice job though. I have DOMS everywhere right now too. They're like the "I just want to sit in the hot tub for hours" DOMS. It's so funny b/c I was just saying how I didn't have any DOMS and now it's like I'm getting them everywhere like crazy!

Off to go read some healthy articles on Bodybuilding.com and try to knock some sense into myself!

Oh - I copied these protein shake recipes off of there the other day. Thought you all might be interested:

Orange Vanilla Shake
Ingredients:
• Mix 2 scoops of Vanilla Protein Powder
• 8 oz. Orange Juice
• 4-5 ice cubes
• 1 tsp. Vanilla Extract
• ½ banana
• 2-3 frozen strawberries
• 2 packets of sweetener
This will get your taste buds going!

Berry Good Shake
Ingredients:
• Mix 2 scoops of Raspberry Yogurt and protein powder
• 4 strawberries
• 15 blueberries
• 16 ounces of nonfat milk
• 1.2 cup of ice cubes.
It is so good that you should serve it with a little umbrella in it!

Chocolate Coffee Shake
Ingredients:
• Mix 2 scoops of Alpine Milk Chocolate Protein Delite or other protein with:
• 1 cup of skim milk
• 5 ice cubes
• 1 cup of water
• 1 spoonful of instant coffee!
Tastes like a gourmet concoction!

Wild Berry Boost
Ingredients:
• 2 scoops vanilla flavor whey protein powder (Whey Best, Scipro)
• 8 raspberries
• 4 strawberries
• 15 blueberries
• 16 ounces nonfat milk
• 1/2 cup ice cubes


Peanut Butter Chocolate Truffle
Ingredients:
• 2 scoops chocolate flavor whey protein powder (Whey Best, Scipro)
• 1 teaspoon creamy peanut butter
• 16 ounces nonfat milk
• 1/2 cup ice cubes


Peanut Brittle Protein Shake
This is a delicious favorite I discovered quite by accident as I sat staring at my "boring" vanilla protein powder and wanting something sweet. This mimics peanut brittle only in taste. It won't send your blood sugar soaring and it's a fun way to get in some healthy unsaturated fat.
Ingredients:
• 2 scoops vanilla protein
• 1 tbsp sugar-free instant butterscotch pudding mix, dry
• 1 tbsp natural peanut butter, chunky
• 8 oz. cold water or lowfat milk.
• 3-6 ice cubes
Directions:
Add all ingredients to blender, blend, and serve. I like to add the peanut butter in last so it stays a little chunky, just like the peanut brittle it is replacing.
Nutritional Information for added ingredients (excludes milk & protein powder):
Per Serving:
Calories - 108
Carbs - 6 g
Protein - 4g
Fat - 8 g
Fiber - 1g
 
Suz, I think that sometimes those things just start sounding good when we are trying to eat clean. Kind of like being deprived of the sweets and carbs and stuff. I have been trying to stay on a high protein low carb diet and I tell you I keep looking at stuff and then I have to say look my abs are looking more defined I don't need that stuff. Although I will say last night I blew it too and ate 3 of the kids fruit roll ups and two mini boxes of raisins:mad: I am doing good today though. Thought about getting a fast food salad on the way home from shopping but pushed myself to come home and cook. I made a ground turkey chili with some of my fresh tomatoes and didn't put any beans in it. I added lots of onions and garlic. It was yummy and Bill is lucky he isn't here after all of the garlic and onions LOL Those protein drink recipes look good. I will skip the peanut butter ones though. I would have to eat half the jar of peanut butter while putting it in the shake LOL I have used the pudding mix in shakes before. It makes them thicker and creamier but has a lot of sodium in it.
I like those refrigerated sugar free butterscotch pudding cups Jello makes. Before I started cleaning things up better I was eating those with chocolate whey protein powder stirred in.

I cleaned out my desk in my workout room and found my fat caliper instructions:) Now maybe if I remember to do it in the morning before I eat or anything so I can write it in my new workout log book.
