good protein snacks

I am new here and all of you are very inspiring. I finally bought Burn the Fat, Feed the Muscle. I recommend it but I was wondering if any of you could give me some ideas on proteins to add to my meals. I know nuts, cheese, eggs and meat. It isn't always ideal to cook a chicken breast. What specifics are your favorites and easy to have handy?

protein bars, protein shake, trail mix, almonds and the prepackaged tuna fish that comes with crackers, relish and low fat mayonnaise is a nice snack too.

I also love cottage cheese & fresh fruit. I eat tons of it. I also buy those starkist mini fat free tuna kits. I think they come w/ six wheat crackers - about 150 cal total, low carb, low sugar. Those are great in a time crunch. I always keep string cheese handy. Low carb (b/c it's low sugar) yogurt, fresh veggies (I cut them up all at once).

Protein bars are not the best choice because many of them are loaded with sugar. Protein powder is good. I second FF cottage cheese with fresh fruit. I cook over a lb of chicken breast on Sunday and then eat it during the week.

I dampen my almonds, wipe them dry, and then sprinkle some splenda and cinnamon on them.

Be careful to use light Tuna. There is a lot of Mercury in the white Albacore.

Welcome, Vicki!!

I'm another lover of cottage cheese w/fresh fruit. In the morning I drink soy milk with a scoop of protein powder. There are some good breakfast cereals that are a good source of protein - I love Kashi Go Lean Crunch. I love to snack on low-fat string cheese. Sargento makes a DELICIOUS and very addicting l.f. string cheese. Walnuts, pecans, almonds are good sources of protein but also have a lot of fat - granted it's the good Omega 3 fat but you still don't want to overdo it! Peanut butter, too - good source of protein but it can be high in fat.

Looking forward to seeing you more on the forums!

Soy nuts. It's a bit high on fat, but the good kind. I haven't gotten fat on it, and I eat it a lot, about 2-3 servings a day. 14 grams of protein per 1/4 cup. It's actually filling, too. 12 grams fat, 10 grams carbs.

Candi,

You can get the Atkins Advantage protein bars. These do not have alot of sugar in them and high in protein. If they did have alot of sugar, I would not be eating them. You just have to read the labels off stuff.

Atkins Advantage have a higher fat content. I'm just saying that although many people eat them, the bars do not get a high approval rating. I didn't know that until I started doing some reading.

Candi,

Yeah, you are right, but I think it is better than eating the kind with pure sugar. We need some fat in our diet anyways. I think as long as we are keeping track of the fat/protein/carb count, it won't hurt us, but sugar just scares me! LOL

Hello Vicky,

When I grill out I add some turkey burgers to the grill and put them in the freezer. That way I have them ready when I want them. I also agree with the cottage cheese, and light tuna in water. I know alot of people will say yuk to this one, but I love sardines in mustard. There is also Salmon.

I have been doing the BFFM plan also, and love it. By the way, since you are from WI why not join us on the Buff Badgers thread?
