Did I even spell that right?? Anyway, got up my nerve and joined a gym near my house, and tomorrow I am supposed to meet with one of their PTs for a "fitness assesment". For all you trainers: What is he going to make me do??? What should I be ready for?? Thanks, have a great day!!

Hi Donna!!

Have no fear my dear..haha. You are a Catheite and I'm sure you'll do great!! I do fitness assessments before I begin working with any new client. It lets me know where they are as far as their fitness level, helps me prepare an appropriate program for them, and also gives us someplace to start so that we can track their progress.

They will do some type of cardio assessment. I usually have my clients ride a special stationary bike, while wearing a heart rate monitor, and I and a computer assess their heart rate during that time. I also do a muscle strength assessment and a flexibility assessment, where they sit on the floor and reach as far as they can to their toes or past them. I also do a body fat assessment using calipers and taking measurement at the quad, tricep and core.

I also sit down and talk and LISTEN to my client's wants, needs, and likes as far as physical activities go. I also go over diet, nutrition and answer any questions they may have. All of this information gives me a great base to create a program for them that they will stick to and enjoy.

YOU HAVE NO WORRIES...Good luck!!!:)

Hi Donna,

You'll do great, and don't worry about it, it just shows where you are at for various types of fitness. There is no real pass/fail, just your going to basically told you are right here, with cardio, strength and flexibility. There's always room for improvement so don't feel that any score is low or bad. Just remember not to eat right before you go for your assesment, as you'll will be doing quite a bit of activity. Other then that, have fun, and relax, and enjoy what you'll learn about yourself.

Hey thanks guys! I keep reminding myself a lot of the population in my age group(over 40) are not even half as fit as I am, even though I have not been working out as much as i should since my move in late June...I have just been too darn busy! I think the whole gym thing has me nervous, since the last time I stepped foot in one was about 13 years ago when the in thing was too be waaaayyy too thin and wear those really horrible unitard thong atrociites!!! (Mind you I DID NOT!!) And all we ever did was hi low cardio...which I HATED...and still do. Am I showing my age??? Ah well, thanks for making me feel like everything is going to be okay! I'll let you know what I find out....kind of curious myself!

Hi Donna!

I'm 40 so I know all about the Hi/Low and the goal of being very, very thin "thing". I'm embarrassed now to tell you that I proudly wore my unitard thong thing. What was I thinking?? haha Well, a lot of people did then. Thank goodness those days are over. And I find that the gym atmosphere is much much different now. And thank God, so is the attire..haha

DON'T worry about the assessment. It will simply tell you were you are and I'm sure you'll be pleasantly surprised. No worries. Have fun and let us know how you make out!!!
