Firm Barbell Weight Capacity

Anyone know the max. weight you can load onto one of the old Firm barbells?

Hi Petra! It's been a while since I loaded my FIRM barbell (I have a Troy lite that I prefer, and I tend to use my FIRM barbell as just a body bar), but I know the bar itself weighs 11 lbs and I've loaded it up fairly heavy with no problem. If memory serves me correctly, I'm thinking that I once loaded it for my DH with 3 10-lb plates and 1 5-lb plate on each side and that this pretty much maxed out the available room for plates. HTH! :D

The bar itself weighs 10 lbs.

I'm pretty sure you can load it as heavy as you'd like, you just have to have heavy enough plates. The max number of plates you can put on one end and still have room for the end collar is six. So, if you had twelve 10 lb plates, you could load it up with 120 lbs of plates, which would equal 130 lbs of weight.

Pesonally, I don't go that heavy for anything. The heaviest I use the barbell EVER is 40 lbs. I generally use two 5 lb plates, and eight 2.5 lb plates. That weight, added to the bar weight, gives me 40 lbs. I like using the 2.5 lb plates because you easily change the weight amount without removing and replacing a lot of plates.
